Default 5.4l tuners.

Hey guys, as you may have seen I've been experiencing a significant loss in fuel mileage with no explination and nothing seems to be fixing the issue, I've done plugs, filters, oil change, I didn't do coils cause I don't have an extra grand laying around to do something that MIGHT fix my problem. I'm throwing no codes, no faults or anything, so I've decided to try a tuner.

I'm working with a budget so I've narrowed it down to these three.

Diablo trinity.
SCT x4
or a Superchip Cortex.

I've never used a tuner before, I don't know the first thing about them, I just know with the right tune I can kind of economize the truck (not sure if thats an actual word lol) so I'm wondering which ones you guys have had the most luck with, I'm not looking for power, I'm looking for economy. From what I've read thus far, the superchip cortex might be the most customizable, but as we all know they been in the game since day one, and their prices reflect it. So I'm kind of wondering if that would still be the best option where I'm not looking for performance. I'm at all loss. I'm getting furstratedand almost to the point where I'm getting ready to get rid of the truck and buy a car cause i cant afford to drive the F****** thing anymore

Check the air pressure in your tires, make sure brakes aren't dragging, excessive mud build up underneath (extra weight) how much did it drop ? Miles before to a tank to miles currently ?

Howdy.

Pick the X4 - run away from the other two.

Buy it from a respected SCT custom tuning shop - that way you'll get custom tuning at the same time ( 3 tunes fer $50 ).

My recommendation: http://www.morepowertuning.com/sct-7...ford-f150-5.4L

This will transform the truck.

Call / email Mike and Ken - good fellers.

I've covered all the bases in my other thread. tires are fine, no mud, no extra weight, no brakes are dragging, went into storage with 950 ish (km, so roughly 18-20 mpg) to a tank, now I've dropped to about 600 (km, 13 ish mpg) so overall its dropped about 1/3 from where it was in the fall. and the only thing the truck did was sit through the winter. I've given it a tune up, plugs and such. no change, well minimal change, I went from 19 liter per 100 to 18. It only has 150KM on the odometer, so it shouldn't really be to the point of wearing out.

Kind of what I am leaning towards, but unfortunately I will not be ordering from a tuning shop of any sort, I'm ordering through work because i can get them at a fraction of the cost of regular retail. So I will most likely run pre- loaded tunes for a little bit.

Buy the tuner from your work and then get MPT to email you there custom tune. When you order from them. They give forum members a discount.

Have you run a couple of tanks of gas through it? If you didn't run it at all in storage did you treat the fuel? I'm not familiar with the fueling system on these trucks but on my EFI bike you need to relieve fuel pressure before storing it. Could it be a stuck or partially clogged injector or issue with your fuel system?

Yeah, I've run quite a few full tanks through the system, I always started it every other week and drove it up the road through the winter.. aside from the fuel mileage itself it runs great, doesn't feel like its starving for anything.. its just simply a pig on fuel.

Well before I bite the bullet and order the SCT X4, does anyone wanna add their .02 in? from what I've read, this IS going to be my best option. But like i said,I have 0 experience with tuning and programming. Put the truck in front of me I can go on all day, start talking to me about tuning and computers and I'm in the clouds.

That being said.. would it be worth the extra money and go with the livewire ts?
