My 05 had it.... Does the noise speed up or slow with rpms? If so its an exhaust leak at the header ( the bolts break and creates a pinhole leak) and it a biotch to access. Costs like 4-500 at dealer. So if noise changes with rpms take it in under warranty. And it will get progressively louder. If just slight ticking it could be injectors and is normal for 5.4

I'm a little late to the discussion but I will chime in with my experience. I bought a 2000 f250 with the 5.4 a couple years ago and it had 130,000 miles on it. at about 160,000 it started with the ticking noise at start up. Would not do it all the time but just start up for about 1 min or so. I drove that pickup to 275,000 miles and it still ticked when I traded it in on my diesel. Never had a problem with the motor on that truck. just kind of made me wonder when it frist started, but it never lead to anything, just annoying!

My 2004 F250 5.4 with 115,000 Kms has the same noise. It gets worse under acceleration, and less when I'm coasting. I'm 99% sure it's a cracked exhaust stud, but I'm not too worried about it. It's just really annoying.

Mine just always sounds the same. Doesn't get worse under acceleration.
