5.0 water pump failure, 30k miles
This added a little bit of a twist on our trip to San Diego with our travel trailer. On our 2nd day there, I stepped out of our trailer in the morning and glanced over at my truck to see a pretty good sized puddle under the front. Popped the hood, found an almost empty coolant reservoir and coolant dripping from the water pump area and all over my oil filter. I had just towed our trailer through the desert the day before in 104 degree temps, lucky it didn't go out then. Truck is a 2013 5.0 with barely 30k miles on it. I had it towed over to the nearest dealer which was across San Diego bay. I dropped it off knowing it would be under warranty and ended up renting a car for one day so we could still enjoy our vacation. Rental was not covered as I do not have the extended warranty. Truck was was ready one day later and I went to pick it up. They tried charging me $504 for the water pump saying it wasn't covered under warranty due to owner neglect. I told them to show me what owner neglect is. I just bought this truck in December, has very low miles and is spotless. They gave in and covered it. No money out of my pocket. Ford only authorized 1.5 hrs for the repair, maybe thats why they were trying to swindle money out of me. I am surprised to see the water pump fail so early but at the same time I am not. My wife's flex lost its water pump at 70k miles, and that was $2700 dollars (buried in the engine and driven off timing chain). This doesn't seem to be a widespread problem on the 5.0's but I have seen it in a few posts here and there. I guess I just got a bad one. Keep an eye on your fluids fellas

Mine (2014 5.0) has had a slight weep since 23k. Now at 35k still the same, haven't lost enough to notice it in the reservoir. One dealer (Ford) said to get it replaced, second opinion shop said just keep going for now. My truck isn't under warranty (salvage) so it's not covered. I think they quoted about $400 for replacement. Hoping it lasts a while still.
Glad you got yours taken care of. It is odd it went with so few of miles

Mine began to weep at the snout around 60K, I didn't even notice till I did a cold air and saw it had some drips of coolant. Over all I like the truck, 93K on it now. But I really hate Ford Service at the dealer. They're either Rude, clueless or a combination of all three. I have tried several in the Houston area, most are subpar compared to the experiences I had when I had my GMC Sierra. It makes me not want to own another Ford product.

I can't believe they tried to make you pay because of neglect. The more and more I hear about Ford service departments the more I think they gotta be the worst. The two big ones in my area both suck too. Glad to hear they ended up doing the right thing.

Sadly. dealers like this are everywhere. Sure makes you want to buy a new Ford, huh ?
Do you wonder what the district service rep thinks about this ?

I had my water pump replaced on my 2014 5.0L, it had 15,900 miles on it. Was weeping out the pump hole.

Yes, I saw it was leaking so I wasn't going to leave it be. I drive the truck a lot out of state for work, so I can't have it breaking down and leaving me stuck some where. Would be a massive hassle in some of the places I have to go in Louisiana.
