2011 5.0 with the tick/thump/knock that started intermittently about 2 years ago. Sometimes it would tick for a few days and stop. Sometime weeks or months and then go away as suddenly as it came for just as long. Has over 100,000 on it now and have yet to experience any ill effects other than the noise.

My '13 5.0 sounds lousy, has a tick/knock, dealer said was normal, friend who's a ford tech said it sounds fine, my dad who's been a mechanic for 30+ years says it's fine, I hate it but these are just noisy engines I guess. Still very smooth and runs great, I just fixed it by getting a louder exhaust and forgetting about it! Bought truck w/ 47,500 miles on it just rolled 55,555 miles and sounds the same and runs the same. Not worrying anymore and just enjoying my new truck!!

I just had my motor on my 12 5.0 replaced. It had 43000 miles on it. It had a tick from the passenger side wheel well. My service guy was able to hear and record it. I had to have the Ford regional rep get involved. They took the head off of the passenger side and found scoreing on the cylinder wall.

I did't expect the truck to stall, but anyways I put it back on and started my truck back up and the tick was gone and hasn't returned after 750 miles. I am not sure why and can't explain it and some probably won't believe it(I sure didn't at first). But she is whisper quiet now and if my tick return's I will post, keeping my fingers crossed.
NOW THIS is VERY INTERESTING. Hoe many are now gonna try this? Since I had my new SB installed with new timing chain tensioners (3000 miles ago) at 55K my truck tick is vey quiet compared to the old block that was removed. I had the knock also, But all have had the issue on the right side. maybe it is a pressure issue with the PCV opening while oil blow by goes through. If my tick returns I will give this a try. Anyone else tried this?

Anyone with this "tick" try pulling their PCV out and cleaning it with a squirt of throttle body or MAF cleaner? Did "tick" go away?

If the tick goes away from cleaning the pvc valve there are still a lot of people that have had oval cylinders and scorn cylinders and had short or long blocks replaced I wish Ford would step up to the plate on this and do what's rite but a lot of them still just say we don't here nothing or just give you the old stand there and say nothing I have sent tech support on here a message months ago and have heard nothing from them my dealer says if they tear into the motor and find nothin it's on me if they do find something it's on them but yet have they made an attempt to start that way I gues in all they want you to go away trade in for a new truck or just lose all faith in there products and go with a nother brand

Almost the same thing on my 2013 5.0.. Mine sounded more like the second video posted, they pulled the passenger side valve cover and found scoring on the exhaust cam lobes and bearing caps (fords words from the service sheet) and metal shavings in the oil. Extended warranty replaced long block. Haven't heard the noise since. Only odd noise I get now is in my exhaust, I'm just assuming my cats are wearing out as the truck is close to 120k miles now.. new motor has about 6k miles on it.

The Video by the Post Author sounds more like injector ticking to me, which I have heard on every fuel injected vehicle I've ever owned, maybe not as loud.. but it definitely doesn't sound like a mechanical metal/metal knock, it sounds more like an electrical relay/switch click.

Default Engine tick

Reading all these comments from 2017 I purchase a 2012 Ford f150 Lariat 5.0 engine was running smooth now it has developed a ticking sound coming from the passenger side I've tried Lucas fuel injection I've tried rislone. Nothing seems to work I watched a video on YouTube and I seen a guy change out his exhaust manifolds The tick was gone.
