Default 5.0 Mileage (including towing)

I’ve had my 2013 5.0 4x4 with tow package for 2-3 years. Nothing has changed about it, just wondering what everyone else’s experiences are. My computer shows an average mileage of 13.2 and it’s always been somewhere around there. Only varying a few tenths if I reset and run it a while.

When towing, my calculated mileage (based on filling the tank back up) was 7.5 mpg pulling a ~6000 pound travel trailer.

Seems like my 2007 5.4 got the same, if not better, mileage. I would have expected a more modern engine to do better. Anyone else share these numbers?

I live in a semi rural area and I average 18.5 with my 5.0 with 3.73 rear. I have been accused of driving "retired".

Mine so far seems to be an outlier on the low end. What are some things I should be looking at to see if my 5.0 is being sleepy on me?

Fair enough! But at least mine is about trying to see why my non-towing mileage is the same as everyone else’s towing mileage in the other threads

Stock I hit 23mpg on a road trip. With the level and 305’s I get between 14-17mpg. I mostly do city driving but get closer to 15. 14 is in the winter.

My 2013, new to me, seems to get 18-18.5 highway unloaded.

My 2014 with 3.55’s and ten ply tires I stay at 17.3 90% highway miles cruise set at 76 mph, most I ever tow is our atv’s so maybe 3000 lbs and my milage really doesn’t change.

My personal best was a 250-mile average of just over 24 MPG, but that was unloaded, with just me in a stock truck with half-tank of gas in pretty optimal conditions. I haven't seen 20 MPG since removing the air dam, leveling the truck, and putting on BFG KO's. In more recent times, my fishing trips up north with about 1000 lbs of people/gear and a full tank of gas get me about 17-18 MPG highway. My normal commute gets me about 15-16 MPG combined, and towing several thousand lbs gets me about 12-13 MPG combined.

Note that a lot of people seem to have pretty inaccurate MPG gauges. I like to track my gas mileage most of the time, and actually made a specialized OBDII program that I'm able to calibrate and seems to give me pretty accurate mileage data. Even so, my OEM MPG gauge is usually within 1 MPG of both my OBDII program and the old pen and paper at the pump method.
