5.0 JLT Cold Air Intake review
Hey guys,
Just got my JLT intake in from more power tuning. just wanted to put my 2 cents in on this system.
I'll start by saying this intake pushes some serious air into the truck. It requires CUSTOM TUNING for proper use. It's got a large S&b filter on the end. The system is sharp looking. Adds some class to the engine bay, and it goes together in about 15 mins.
After I got my tunes loaded I fired it up and was amazed at the sound of it sucking air. It is nothing like my old k&n on my 99. It's got an aggressive growl when you leave on the throttle. I noticed a lot of vibration from the intake through the floor.
I'm estimating with my truck set up I'm gaining over 10 hp with the intake. I certainly noticed a mid range gain. Passing cars the truck will gain speed much like a diesel would. I'll have to see if I can pull any extra mpg.
Overall it's a pretty sweet system, recommend it to any 5.0 owners!

Any pics of it installed and links where you got it from. Always interested in reading about this. Although I am still not convinced that a CAI system makes much difference in our 5.0 trucks.

I've got some photos on my phone, but don't know how to load them on here. I got it from MPT Performance. They have a write up on there website with dyno numbers on there 5L project truck. This intake has a much larger MAF over other makes on the market, which is why it requires custom tuning. its a good read, and every mustang on the planet runs JLT so why not!

I'm not a fan of CAI's most of them are snake oil epically after someone drops $400 into a system. But something about this system has caught my attention. It's obvious it pulls more air but I'd like to know if it pulls any colder air than the stock.

See MPT's blog. It gained an extra 10 RWHP over just an MPT 93 octane tune. I'd be curious to see what the numbers are on 87 octane.

MPT just put a video on YouTube. Intake and tune 45 hp on a stock truck. This is not your ordinary intake. Check it out. I can vouch for gains in torque. It will bolt right up to a boss intake when I finally pull the trigger on it.

I have to say I'm confused. I've been reading up on MPT's 5.0 tunes as I am thinking of going that way. On there site they mention that the 93 performance tune is good for 47.9 Horsepower and 44.9 Torque gained at 6K RPM over a stock 5.0 on 87 octane.
So now they say that a tune and intake are good for 45hp and the CAI is resoponsible for 10 of those HP's? What am I missing?

after talking to my performance shop I am debating returning my aFe intake (doesn't require tune) and looking for something with a bigger diameter for the MAF...no JLT for the 4.6
