Default 5.0 help.

Ford engine's are noisy, it's just the way it is. Chevy does make a quieter engine, but it's not necessarily any better.
I think the high water mark, should be raised to 200,000 miles these days.
I sold my 05 with 149,000 miles. It made those cam phaser noises from day one. I did get her to quiet down with new solenoids, but it was still making a knocking sound.
I had full confidence, that engine would've run to 200,000 miles.
Might have replaced the chains and or the guides along the way, but everything seemed to rock solid.

If you want some ammo for your farther, my buddies 2014 Silverado has had 15 recalls and is having transmission issues again.
No greener grass on the o**8ther side of the fence, that's for sure!

I agree 200k is a good mark. And i know the ford engines are good...my 04 with 180k miles sounded like my diesel did lol. But it ran great. And never used oil. Always looked pretty clean when i changed it too. Not a doubt in my mind it would go well over 200k. But the sounds that arent normal just eat at me....im not saying i want to go GM lol and i know they all have their problems. Id just like the engine to sound like its supposed to.

Today after church in the parking lot, I had to listen really close but I heard the faint knock, but it is very, very, faint now with the stock intake and filter reinstalled. So that answers my own gut feeling. A CAI and high flow filter will definitely let engine sound resonate because the silencers are gone and that explains their purpose. I bet any of you wouldn't even notice my noise now and I bet the dealer will say they can't hear it either. A stethoscope will definitely be needed in my opinion. I also have the loud tick on the passenger side and I would bet that is the timing chain on that side, normal? who knows?

Good to hear. Sucks if it is the timing chain. But id say you have many more miles before it would be a major concern.
