Default 5.0 engine swap

I've got a 2012 f150 5.0 with 150,000 km. I'm hearing that knocking / ticking under the wheel well on the passenger side like so many others have experienced. If worse comes to worse, I would consider doing an engine swap and would prefer to put in the youngest used engine possible. I'm told the newest 5.0 that I could swap in as a direct replacement is a 2014. Can anyone confirm this?

Folks have ran these things to 300k ticking all the way there. If oil pressure and compression is good, run it like you stole it.

You sure it not an exhaust leak?
Do the 5.0s have the same problem with exhaust manifolds as the 5.4s did ?
