I agree. my stick FX4 does a lot of gear hunting when I'm on cruise going through mountain passes or when I'm haulin' ***** lol. For the most part though, at least for me, the truck performs great in all aspects that includes day to day driving and cross country trips from the humid wetness that is the Tennessee valley to the clear, dry, elevated air of the Rockies of Colorado, Wyoming and Montana.

I bought a 5.0 because it was cheaper and the company provided me with an EB it is quieter more responsive and faster. But the 5.0 is not slow either. Some times its hard for me to tell which is which. I mean when i switch between my truck and the work truck. And i tow my 2500lbs boat all day long and the truck goes like there is nothing back there

Drive both and buy the one you like. And don't feel bad because some guys might hit you with an aggressive responses. But this is been a sore topic on this forum lol

Good luck, Moe

Have an 11 Ecoboost (3.73s)with 60kmiles on it,mostly trouble free.
It's not stock tho.
Recently got to drive a 5.0L with 3.55 gears for 3 weeks while my truck was getting painted.
Pulled my 2000lb boat trailer with it but not the 6k travel trailer.
The lack of low end and taller gears compared to my EB definitely made a difference in loaded acceleration and amount of shifting.
Empty mpg was slightly better than my EB,pulling boat n trailer slightly worse.
If you dont pull anything the 3.55 geared 5.0L is fine but I cannot imagine pulling my 6k trailer in the Rocky Mountains with it,especially after pulling with the EB for 3 years.
3.73s might help a bit but the last 3 weeks of driving a V8 has reinforced in me that buying the EB was a great call.
And I was very happy to have it back.

Until Ford puts a proper intercooler in the EB I wouldn't have one. Had one and it did its shut-down in humid weather. Shorty afterward that truck was history and I went back to the 5.0. The EB got 1 mpg better mileage on the interstate at 70 mph, but 1 mpg less around town when it was driven at my normal acceleration rate. When babied the two engines are the same. Yes the EB had more torque and would never drop out of 6th gear on the highway but I did not like the throttle lag. Like said by many drive both. If possible keep them over night and drive them, not just around the block.

I think I might start a thread titled "3.7 or 6.2".... just to break up the regular debate and drama that ensues lol. But the advice doesn't change.... drive both and pick the one you like lol.

Love my 2013 5.0L!

Its been trouble free for well over a year & 17K miles now. The only complaint I have is an occasional click sound when shifting into reverse, but most people have that issue regardless of engine and Ford knows about it... its actually become a little less loud as the truck has aged.

You may want to go read all the Ecoboost TSB's (even for a new 2014) it may turn you off from them.. it certainly did me. Also the Feds investigation was kind of a bummer.

If it was me and I was buying the truck today, I would get the Ecoboost engine. Even though the Ecoboost still has some isolated issues, they are less and Ford seems to be addressing them. The Ecoboost is gonna be the engine of the future for Ford.. like it or not (its also the only engine available in the revised 2015 Expedition).

On a recent 5 day road trip in my V8, I think the 5.0L is a little short on top end, especially at higher altitudes. Im hoping a new S&B intake & Borla exhaust may give my V8 a bit of goosing in this area. The Vortex V8 that was in my 2009 GMC Sierra was a more powerful & smoother engine/transmission set up.

The final decision for me a year ago, was simply driving both engines. I found the V8 a touch smoother around town. And since I always have dogs in the back, the 5.0L was an obvious choice (regardless of any Ecoboost issues). I found myself driving much faster on the same test route in the Ecoboost.. and thats not a good situation for my lead foot. Finally, the additional monies for the Ecoboost engine and all the known issues at that time, simply were not worth the risk.

NOTE: If you ever plan on putting a winch on your new truck, you have to get a V8.

Why do you need the V8 to put a winch on the truck?

because the inter cooler intake is in the center of the front bumper on the eco. you could, however, mount a hitch on the front and just use a hitch mounted winch.
