Default 5.0 Clatter/Chatter on Light Acceleration

Let me start off by saying that I am well aware of other threads that may be referring to this same topic, let's just get over that now. I am always apprehensive regarding information on old threads (especially those about sounds) as it's hard to know if that is actually referring to the sound you hear. Small rant(ish) over, onto the topic.

Under light throttle when accelerating from a stop I can hear a chatter/clatter/click/gurgle thing coming from the motor. I can only really hear it when I am driving next to a flat surface (i.e. a wooden fence) where the sound can bounce back at me. Truck has just under 43,000 miles and I have only run 87 octane (Top Tier most of the time). I did an oil/filter change a few hundred or so miles ago using 5W-20 Mobil 1 full synthetic and a Mobil 1 filter. I noticed this a few months ago and really didn't think much of it as it doesn't sound that bad and I did not notice any other issues. I've read that some people thought it was pre-ignition/pinging and using 91 solved the noise and even that it's the normal noise that the cam phasers make. Depending on what is suggested, I may just put some 91 in the next time I go to fill up to see what happens, if anything.

I have taken a video in an attempt to help everyone understand what I am referring to and the link is attached below. It's kind of hard to make out but I can hear it on that first acceleration and also on the second one a short while later. Earbuds/headphones are recommended.

Exhaust heat shield on exhaust pipe would be my first guess. There are other threads referencing this as well.

Also had another light chatter and it actually ended up being a dirty MAF sensor. Cleaned that and it went away.

Thanks for the response. I have heard about the heat shield, however I highly doubt that is the culprit, however I may be wrong. When I get a chance later today I'll check it out.

As for the MAF sensor, I just checked and it looks clean. I may spray it with some MAF cleaner later just to rule that one out completely.

On Ecoboost but I just had rattle... I saw 2 things not sure which was the fix. Heatshield crossover pipe below trans, had a steel clamp band that rusted through replaced with stainless ziptie. Also the front skidplate to where that whatever garbage trans cover is called, the clips where something should screw in to one was loose in it's mount. Since nothing is screwed in to it I just pulled it out completely.

Huh, interesting.... Did you end up solving the issue? My noise is not a metallic rattle like that of a loose metal plate, I am pretty certain it's coming from inside the engine. It only happens while "under load" in a mid-light acceleration from a stop. If it was a loose bracket/shield/whatever it probably would happen even when just crusing, no?

No skidplates here, by the way, I have a base 4x2 XLT. I'll have a 4x4 one day, when I can afford a good one.

I have a clatter aswell. I've read it could be the transmission fluid separator plate.

Yes fixed and yes only light throttle, didn't hear at idle and I'm guessing normal noise at speed drowns it out. Simple check, is this band loose, I removed mine to replace it with just my fingers

Where have you seen this? Normally a bad separator plate causes a groaning sound when shifting from P to D. TSB 14-0134
