Video is set to private, can't see it...and no they are not whipser quiet, in fact they're kind of noisey because of how they're constructed. I get a slight knock type deiselish sound when idling but I think that's fairly normal if that's what you're hearing. If it's loud that might be an issue

That's what drives me nuts about that other 5.0 thread. The slightest tick or anything, they want a new engine.
The days of the quiet 1976 GM 305/307ci are over. We need to get used to it.

The sound you are hearing is the purge solenoid.(located on top of TB) It is working normal. I have over 30 years experience as a diesel mechanic, so to my ears these engines are quite. I have over 83,000 miles on my 2011 FX4 with 5.0L and it sounds just like yours no problems to date. I have towed our 5000 pound travel trailer several times from Winnipeg Manitoba to Weslaco Texas and this past summer to Homer Alaska and up to Dawson in the Yukon. I agree these engines are a little busy sounding, but keep in mind you have 32 valves being opened and closed a multi chain operated OHV train as well as the fuel injectors making noise. Just take off the sponge rubber covers from the fuel rails and you will notice the sound level increase due to injector operation. You will also get intermittent noise from the A/C compressor clutch cycling. The thing to notice is how smooth any engine is at idle and when driving. I agree it is hard not to worry about a strange sound with anything as expensive as a new truck. Plus with all the engine options from the manufactures is it any wonder people worry did I make the right selection. To get the most life out of any vehicle you do not need to baby these trucks every day but you do need to service them like they are being driven under sever service conditions,as listed in the service manual. Stay away from cheap filters and use only OEM approved or better fluids.
