4.5 years and 80,000 Kilometers later, my truck still makes this sound, but I've never had any problems with 4WD because of it.

i know this is an ancient thread, but with my 2014 it reacts the same way. the noise reacts to engine speed, not vehicle speed. at first i thought it was chain noise, but i'm not so sure.

If you're at all concerned, moreworktodo, I suggest bringing your truck in to your local dealer to see if they can diagnose this. Also, I will escalate this to the regional customer service manager for your area for further assistance. Please send me a private message with your full name, VIN, servicing dealership, current mileage, and your best daytime phone number so I can get started.

Mine doesnt seem any louder or anything in 4wd!

Toddman34, exactly my experience. This is the first vehicle I have ever heard the transfer case. A '65 Chevy 4x4, '88 Bronco 2, '94 F150, '94 Silverado, '94 Blazer, '03 Silverado, '04 Sante Fe, '08 Silverado, none have had any audible transfer case related noise. To be fair, it isn't real loud, but it is there.

Sorry for bringing up such an old thread, it was the one that seemed the closest to what I have.

I bought FX4 this summer and was using 4x4 in the winter, noise-free, until I hit about 7000km... I brought it to the dealership and they told me the noise is normal and that there's nothing they can do for me... If it went 3 months without making noise in 4x4, why did it start now?

It's only in 4x4, starts around 60km/h and only when I take my foot off the gas. It feels like the engine is braking and sounds like a growl/whistle.

I have the same noise, following the accelerator also.

My 2012 makes a similar sound.
