Default 4WD Question

Hola. 1st time truck owner/buyer and I dove head first into an auction truck... 2011 XL.

The motor vehicle inspection came up with the 4wd not working, that the fronts are engaged but not running.

It drives and feels like it’s switching between 4x2 and 4x4. No issues with dial, screen says it’s switching. Physically there’s a difference.

I jacked the front end and can feel a difference in tire rotation when switching when switched between 4x2 and 4x4. When parked, running and in .4wd, the front tires do rotate though, with some resistance.

Aside from buying more tools (ie jack stands) or taking to a shop is there any other suggestions for how to check/troubleshoot? Because it would seem to me it’s working.

Suggest both jack stands and a $80 or more OBD scanner for codes. If you're going to do stuff yourself.
