Default 4WD low question

I had a 2003 F150 automatic that when you put it in 4WD low would shift very quickly thru 3 gears.

Now I have a 2012 f150 automatic that when you put it in 4WD low doesn't shift at all, just stays in 1 gear.

Is this how its suppose to be?

Never cared for 4x4 low auto shift points either, typically hard shifts at way to high an RPM for me. In low range I simply use manual mode so shifts occur where I want. That's much easier on the truck and me both.

Typically in 4LOW you are suppose to be stuck hard or trying to make your way through some thick muck. You would only want to crawl your way out! 4HI for everything else...imo.
