Default 4H and 4L

Hello everyone, a quick question - I understand the difference between 2L (100% rear wheel drive), 4L (low gear for heavy weight, steep grades, rarely used I would presume?) and 4H (super muddy, super snowy etc) please correct me if I’m wrong.

My question is whether should you engage the 4h and 4l every so often to keep it limber? i don't foresee my self using those options until the following winter (4h that is) and 4l i don't think I’ll ever really use, although anything can change, obviously.

Just looking for some guidance.

Thanks gents.

Yes...exercise the transfer case and front diff every so often...do this by selecting 4H while below 50 MPH driving stright...not good to turn while your truck is on dry pavement in 4WD.
