Disagree, it does make a difference, but certainly not HUGE as you suggest. I have owned both and driven both allot, where the 3.73 really helps is if you are towing over 5000lbs on a regular basis, then, the taller rear end can really help you and put less strain on the drivetrain. Since the new 6 speed tranny's have come out, the differences in accleration between rear end ratios hasn't been as drastic as it was in the past. Now, if you compared a 3.31 to a 3.73, you may feel a huge difference, but not so much between the 3.55 and 3.73's.
To the OP, keep in mind, these are trucks, not sports cars by any stretch...... yes, I realize passing zone accelleration is an important consideration, but, once your TCM (transmission control module) has had a chance to learn your driving habits (about 800km or so), you will not be disappointed when mashing your foot down on the highway at speed (unless your towing some serious weight). If sheer acceleration is what your trying to achieve, make sure you have the transmission in "Tow/Haul" mode, I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the difference that can make as well.... :-)

i have the 3.73 and my buddy got one with the 3.55 about the same time i got mine. once he let me drive his and i could tell a huge difference in the way it accellerated from a dead stop and when trying to pass on the hwy

I had 3.73s in my 2007 Lariat 4x4 SuperCab and I have 3.55s in my 2010 Lariat 4x4 Supercrew. This 2010 would dust my 2007 any day of the week off the line or otherwise. BUT.. This also brings the new tranny into the mix so it's not really a fair comparison.
I pull an RV several times a year so was very leery about going with the 3.55s but I wanted the improved mileage it can offer and I didn't want the huge mirrors of the max tow package.
I'm still nervous about the first time I pull my RV but since I only have 1000 miles on my new truck I haven't pulled yet. I will very soon though.
I'm sure there is a difference without a doubt, but for practical purposes without towing I think you're fine either way. The difference will not make it suddenly a speed demon if that's what you're looking for. To each their own but I think you'll be golden either way. Just MHO...

If the 3.73 is so much better, then why does ford seem to make the 3.55 standard? I see way more models on the lot with the 3.55 in them than the 3.73 or any other ratio...is it because of gas mileage?
