30 day expiration on documented issue?
I've got a 2012 5.0. It's had some vibration and shaking and idle misfire since I purchased it certified used with 28k.
I took it in with no success. I went to another dealer for second opinion and that turned out to be the same owner of both locations. Still got nowhere, no codes logged but they did acknowledge my issue.
They ruled out the driveshaft being the issue because the engine shakes in park. They tried to get me for $110 to grease the splines and I declined. The mechanic did it for free but less than a month later its bumping and chirping again.
So they come back and say "the tech narrowed the problem to one of the cylinders and is going to swap the (pcm? or igniton?) I can't remember. Another hour goes by and the service tech says, "our mistake it wasn't that, and we don't know what the problem is." He says without any codes they can't just replace parts.
I spoke with several other people after expressing my displeasure. Essentially they have me the "natural characteristics of these trucks, within normal specs" speech and assured me not to be concerned as I was still under warranty for 100k.
They sent me home saying to come back if my check engine light came on or the problem got worse.
Fast forward a year and half and the problem has gotten more noticeable and I'm approaching my 100k warranty limit.
I call Ford and they said that because the problem was reported more than 30 days they can't help. I asked for a manager. 24 hours later I receive a call from a manager who says the same thing. I told them I've already been to the dealers more than once. He insisted that I go back to dealer and have the dealer call Ford. He said if the dealer can't or won't fix the problem they are suppose to call Ford. I asked him why he had no record of the dealer calling Ford and why its my responsibility to make the dealer do their job?
Ford's representative wouldn't help, and is saying my documented claims don't count because it's been more than 30 days and the dealer didn't call them?
I don't know why the dealer didn't go further to figure out the problem, but I'm guessing it was that they knew what I didn't know back then about engine knocking. They knew the problem was in one cylinder according to their computer but chose to do nothing because "there was no code?" Or was it because they knew the cylinder was warped which takes 2 seconds to diagnose as I'm now aware.
I haven't seen the Ford CSR Crystal or others on the forums in a while so if anyone could help me reach them or anyone else I'd really appreciate it. .

If they didn't find anything the first time and didn't call ford, then what has been documented?
Go to a different dealer if you need to. It appears that it is just internal records at that dealer.

As mentioned earlier, isn't there a Ford representative, or two, that chimes in on this site for just such events? I haven't been on here regularly in a few years, but I do recall seeing those folks pop on. Somebody knows who they are, as I recall it was a guy and a gal (I do recall Crystal). I'd see if you can get them to be of some assistance, possibly. Certainly, a Certified truck would give you some level of importance.

They were on it when I joined 2.5 years ago, so it's just been in the last couple of years.
I wonder if you're having a warped cylinder issue and they aren't doing anything in hopes it'll cause damage and they can sell you on a new truck.
Apparently some 2012 and even older 5.0's had that engine issue.

Ford reps left this forum 2-2-17, and some say have left most social media.

Thanks for the advice guys. I feel its a pita to have to go through the dealer all over again. It's just humiliating to have people acknowledge the issue only to turn around and say good luck lol.
As far as I know there wasn't any code, but you can feel the rough idle like it's a misfire. So apparently the mechanic hooked it up to a computer that told him which cylinder was causing the issues and they reflashed something and also told me they were swapping out something else, but that didn't change the condition.
