295/65/R20 or 35x12.50R20 on a 2.5" leveling kit
Hi guys I have a 2013 FX4 with a 2.5" leveling kit in the front and 3" blocks in the back that I would like to do a 6" lift on but I would like to split the cost of tires and the lift up by doing tires first then the lift shortly after so anyways could I run ether 295/65R20's or 35x12.50R20's on my leveling kit til I get my lift I have 20" KMC rims with what I believe is 15mm offset their website says they come in 15mm or 35mm offset but the dealer put the rims on so I don't know for sure but they don't really stick out so I'm thinking they are the 15mm offset
But here's a link to them http://www.kmcwheels.com/wheels/KM67...50%204WD%20FX4 Thanks everyone |
depends if the wheels are +15 or -15 offset and what the backspaceing is...35/12.50/20 are 13.5+ wide... 295/65 are 35" tall and 12" wide...I would go with them.
|
If they are both positive offest then the 35mm will be further in the wheel well and the 15mm will stick out a little bit more. You would want close to stock offset if your Going to run the 35/12.50, which is +44 if u had the 18s.
|
Yuo could run either tire and be fine. The 295/65/20 will be a little narrower but about 35.5" tall. Where the 35x12.50 will be wider but a 35" tire.

General rule of thumb is +/- .2" of section width for every +/- .5" of rim. A 35" tire is measured off of a 10" rim. Where as a 295/65r20 is measured on an 8.5" rim.

At the risk of asking a question that I'm sure has been covered elsewhere (but I don't have time to search thru a gazillion threads), what is the largest tire size that I can fit on a stock FX4 w/ the stock 20" wheels? TIA!

Ok I found out my rims are 35mm offset with 6.13 backset I would prefer to run the 35x12.50R20 if I could cause I think it would look better with my lift when I do it but I would run the 295/65R20 if I had to
|
You should b able to run those, probably will have to trim some though.

what brand tire we talking here ?? If they are Nitto Trail Grapplers the 35/12.50's are 13.39 wide and 35.04 tall with an agressive sidewall lug.. |
backspaceing
|
If it was the 295/65R20 it would be trail grapplers if it was the 35x12.50R20 it would be cooper STT's
The back spacing on my rims are 6.13 |
You'll be fine with either tire.
|
Ok I'm gonna go with the 35x12.50R20 cooper STT's then

^ Is a dick!!!
I've ran mulitple wheel tire setups so I'm just trying to help the guy out. I actually had 2.5 autospring and 3" block and 295/65/20's for a couple weeks on stock wheels and didn't rub at all. My buddy has pretty much the same setup has the op 20x9 +35 KMC monster with toyo m/t 35x12.50x20. |
I agree with brad. There are tons of guys on here running a 35x12.50 on stock wheels with no rubbing. The only rubbing you may experience will be on the upper control arms, this may or may not occur, but has been known to do so. If it does a small 1/4" wheel spacer will stop it. Cooper tires in my experience with them tend to run a little small anyways.

I run 34s on the stock rim and they rub a little on my mud flaps with a 2 inch level.

Thanks for the kind words Brad... all I wanted to do was like the OP know that all 35/12.50/20 do not measure the same...some are as wide as 13.5" and will cause rubbing if not installed on the proper wheels...the Cooper STT's measure 12.5 wide and 34.66 tall on a 10" wide wheel...so your right he should be fine. so...what tire you running now ? 295/65 or 295/60 ? |
37x13.50x22 Toyo M/T

So to go along with this. I have a 2012 FX4 with a leveling kit and I threw 35x12.50xR20. Toyo Open country AT II. No rubbing with bumper and no rubbing with wheel well behind tires. The only concern I had was rubbing the upper control arm as it's very very close. I took the truck back to Les Schwabs and asked the manager what his thoughts were. If I would ever rub it. He said no, even when the tire deflates or gets low on air pressure because it will only deform on the lower part of the tire. Not the top half. I asked if a spacer would ensure this, he said yes... But what the spacer does is cause A LOT of stress on the lug nots and could break. He advised me to avoid that and I won't have any problems. I have had these tires for about two months on/off road and haven't had an issue at all. |
