Default 2014 MFT screen resolution.

I tried this a while ago just to see if I could get it working.
Now I always think, outside of my home (aside from Imax) there's no better theater than what's in my truck with its 9.1 surround sound. Especially with the Kicker subwoofer and upgrading to Infinity speaker's all around.

So what I did was, get my Chromecast or if you have a Amazon Fire Stick that works as well.
Then I bought a Female HDMI to RCA cables.
Voilą, I have a video player on the 8" screen using the A/V setting.
I realize I lose quality going from digital to 40 yr old designed RCA Jack's.

I always look to make sure I'm streaming at least 720 or 1080i.
The theater sound is great, but the sceen seems to be washed out, way more than any of the pictures or what a 480 resolution screen would be.
I've tried, my HTC 10, phone, Asus Zenpad.
I also have the set-up with a female USB to RCA, so it's right off the thumb drive.

You guy's have any theory's, that could enlighten me?

I took one quick picture of the set-up. It's -2°f out there.

Also for the 'goody two shoes' I'm not driving and the parking brake is on. So no lectures, please. Thank you.
Secondly, I know I can buy aftermarket Head Unit.

Max resolution of RCA is generally 480i, and the down conversion of HDMI to RCA (digital to analog) is usually spotty at best. I’m guessing that is a big part of the issue.

Just use the screen of your tablet and pipe the sound thru the truck.

Off subject but, how do you like the zen pad? When I built gaming pc's I almost exclusively used Asus mother boards. Was thinking about getting one of those tablets.

I have done that before. Problem is it's my main source of info, and I'm afraid to take it out of the house, unless I'm going away.

I have another smaller ZenPad 7. I could use that.

Comp..... I've been very happy with all 3 tablets so far. I had two 7 inch ZenPads, that are 5/6 year's old and still going. My mother has the 7 and it's on JellyBean, but she doesn't know any better.

In my opinion the the ZenPad 8 is the perfect all around tablet. I can read it for hours and not get tired of holding it.
It's not going any further than Marshmallow, but it's a quad-core with 64 gig internal and I have a 32gig card in it. It will take 64 gigs.
It's up to speed with the Type C charger. I can read, and watch video's for a good 5 straight hours.

I've had it two years I think, and not a single issue I couldn't fix myself.
I really think for this niche. Asus builds a solid performer

Hmm. What about the Roku that still has RCA outputs? Probably better than anything with an HDMI converter, as nerdherd said. Current version is $40, although the previous may still be around on ebay, I didn't check.

Would it be possible to run your phone through the RCAs to mirror the GPS?

I'll try it for you.
I think even tho it's not technically a video player, I believe it still needs to be in park for it to work. I'll still give it a shot after work.

Vette, I tried it this morning. What happened was I got sound but no picture while driving.
Same with streaming.

I'm also glad we don't use phone books anymore. Beside the word Knucklehead would be my picture...
My memory is so bad I forgot all about the powered converter I ended up getting at least a year ago.

I'm gonna find a way after all of this, to let my Zen pad hang down over the MFT display just cause it's in a good location for the both of us. Plus I can put the chrome cast back on the tv.

Fwiw, if your wanting to do the same while you re camping in the rain, the powered converter made the MFT screen look as good as it will ever look.
Which ain't no HDR, buts it's a good picture.
