Default 2014 5.0 performance mods

Looking to see what people are doing for performance mods on these 2014 5.0 trucks. Looking at doing the Boss 302 intake, Bigger Throttle Body, Exhaust Headers/catless and Cold Air Intake. I have an HP Tuner MPVI2, would like to see if anyone does remote tunes through HP tuners. If not may just take somewhere local to get tune unless there is a package deal somewhere for this with a different tuner. Is there anything else anyone would recommend to do or something different?

I’ve read a few just recommend a tuner and call it a day. It’s a truck. It won’t ever be “fast”.

maybe exhaust if you want.

Tuner and call it a day. Lol. But seriously, that's really it unless you wanna spend big money. Throttle bodies don't really do crap on efi, you already have a cold air intake that came free with your truck, exhaust isn't really gonna help just make it sound better and I believe I heard you lose torque and gain top end with the boss intake so....tuner

You can throw money at it and get very minimal improvement. You might see some improvement by changing to lower gears, depending on what you have now, but that ain't cheap. If it doesn't have enough power as is you'll be way better off trading it for something that does rather than trying to modify what you have.

Custom tune from MPT and done. Instant power increase on command and adjusted for your driving/towing preferences. Been custom tuned for 6 years now and wouldn't have it any other way.

Robby23 - not looking for fast just more power for towing.
Boss 302 intake
Not meant for towing applications. *Unless the plan is to lose low-end performance.

Bigger Throttle Body
Will improve throttle response, however, no power improvement.

Exhaust Headers
Without major head and cam mod's there will be small, if any gains.

catless
Illegal. *Unless all your towing is off-road

NOTE: The F-150's stainless steel exhaust system is straight-thru and free-flowing by design.
Cold Air Intake

OEM, air intake system .....
.
  • already CAI.
    • air intake from LH (driver) wheel well behind the inner fender shield.
    • air box has a lid. MEANING: It's not a HAI (HotAirIntake) allowing heated engine bay air.
    • is made-of plastic. MEANING: Less heat-soak.
    • IAT reading is nearly same as an aftermarket.
    .
  • OEM, Motorcraft air filters ...
    • meets|exceeds engine air intake CFM requirements. *UNLESS über engine modifications are done. e.g. cylinder head and/or cams.
    • good for 30,000+ miles. *Depending upon conditions.
    • ABSOLUTELY NO possibility of MAF sensor oil contamination.
    • dispose and replace maintenance.
    .
  • after-market ...
    • any increase in air flow comes at the expense of filtration.
    • co$t of cleaning supplies and time involved.
    • (possibility of even minor) MAF sensor oil contamination. *Which reduces performance and MPG.
    • there are NO performance and/or MPG gains.
As others have said ... Get a tune

You aren’t getting that without a stroker kit or a 6.2 swap.

Torque still comes from the action of combustion pressure on the pistons and the spinning of the crankshaft. A longer stroke would help that out. All those aforementioned bolt-one aren’t doing that.

As others have said buy a tune first, if that’s not enough extra re gear, I assume you have 3.55’s so a jump to 3.73 or 4.11’s if you really want would help.

Your truck with 3.55 gears will pull an absurd load if you want.

Your best option is to forget the Boss 302 intake, or Mustang GT intake cams, because they build power at the top end.

My best advice - go to 5STAR 's website, as he is the unchallenged Master of tuning a F150, get yourself a good Tow/Perf tune,
at whatever octane gas you are willing to buy, and he'll give you better throttle response, a little more torque, and fix the shift points so it's not hunting for gears.

Happy Hunting!
