Yep, 2010 and I have same truck but in grey and it gets rock chips. Nature of the beast.

Like they said, get them fixed and add 3m. I use Dr. Colorchip and call it a day as I know it's inevitable.

 

Ohh what would I do to have my 03 back. Paid for and didn't have this bs going on with it. My main point is when I signed up for the protection package I was told this will protect my truck from the elements & especially road salt. We all get screwed in the butt in the end anyway. Thanks for your replies. My humble opinion is this thing was not built Ford Tough, 11,500 miles on really nothing but highway... along with the rust package is a bunch of BS.

 

The front bumper of your vehicle probably takes more abuse from road debris than any other visible area of your vehicle - especially due to the fact that the bumper flexes less than most of the front end parts under impact. My 2013 FX4 with PTM front bumper is no exception.

I had a clear film applied to my front bumper (and grille, headlights, front edge of hood, corners of front fenders, A pillars, mirror caps) before I got any rock chips and the bumper still looks like new after 18k Michigan miles.

I think the material that I had installed was made by a company called Sun Guard, but this video demonstrates the effectiveness of XPEL paint protection film (I couldn't find a local installer so I was unable to have this particular brand installed.)

From what I've found these type of films are the best (invisible) way to protect your paint from impact chips. For every vehicle I've owned I wished that the manufacturer used more impact resistant paint and more aggressive corrosion protection. I don't think that Ford is particularly bad in these areas compared to others.

 

Highway miles are more likely for rock chips. It's the way it is. You could've bought any vehicle, and it would be the same

 

Look, you got roped into all the protection plans they offer which most are crap. I get it, it's new, your excited when signing, they sing a good song about this and that and you take them at their word but it's usually fluff.

You can moan about it or do something about it. Many people have given great advice.

If it eats you up too bad go get chrome bumpers.

 

Chrome does have it's place and no more important a place than the bumpers. Lowest to the ground body part basically.

On a similar note I haven't had a single rock chip my windshield but wife has already had hers repaired twice on her new truck, she drives mostly hwy, I mostly city.

I commute a lot on hwys in western NY. Every car I had ended up with lots of rock chips like that. I try to hang back from the car in front of me, but then some jackass squeezes into the space....never fails. Even though I like the painted bumper, that's what I opted for the chrome bumpers and why I made the salesman give me the small bottle of touch up paint. I'm gonna look into that clear film for the painted bumpers for the future truck purchases though.

 

Bought my 2013 F150 STX 4X4 rcab from Beechmont Ford on 3-12-2013. Have 9900 miles on it. They never tried to sell me the protection package. My paint is tuxedo black, I don't have any of those chips on my truck.

 

Only one to blame is mother nature. the joys of painted bumpers. I'm looking at doing 3M film myself.

 

Update lol. Beechmont replaced the bumper and did install a 3m invisible bra! I did have to bitch a bit but I know where they're coming from but now I have two cracks in the windshield. When does this **** ever stop lol 12,300 miles on the truck, I also fear the ball joints are going out, sounds like something is sticking and thumping when I pull onto a small bump or decline..
