2013..keep it or trade up?

Another vote to keep it. That's the problem with these forums. A bunch of us OCD owners who are a tiny fraction of the overall owner population talking about our problems. It can lead one to think that our vehicles are ready to fall apart at anytime. I experienced this phenomenon when I owned a 99 SVT Cobra and also with my old 2001 Lariat. A few days in the related forums and I was like "What have I done!?!?" I ended up putting 180K on that Lariat before passing it along to my Father in Law and never did anything but normal wear and tear maintenance in spite of all the online chatter early on about the problems I might experience.
My 2013 XLT is paid for and still looks quite nice with 55K on it I think. The pic below is from last week. I did have the timing chain TSB (3.5 Eco) done under warranty and also recently had to replace an IWE actuator after doing a leveling kit. Other than that it has been and still is an amazing truck. My buddy next door is currently waiting for a build of a 2018 Lariat he's ordered. I'm sure it will be an extremely nice truck that I may envy just a bit...except for having those monthly payments for years to come. Ouch!

I have 74K on my '13 already, I drive the heck out of it but can't help it. It's my work/farm/daily driver. I wish I could lock it away and save it for retirement. I'm probably going to keep this one until the wheels fall off.

I regret selling my 1995, and upgrading to a 2013.
If new trucks still use EAPS, it' not an upgrade, it's just future problems.
Keep your truck.

Thanks! They call that color "Blue Jeans" I think. I bought it that way but if I were to order one from scratch that would be the color I'd pick. Like you I also plan to drive it until the wheels fall off. If I keep it as long as I kept my old 2001 Lariat (15 years), I might have my license taken away before I am ready to purchase another vehicle.

Never had any of those issues with my 5.0 w/ 375,000 miles. Yes, it ticked like a sob but so did my other numerous trucks with the same engine and they had close to 200k. Your truck isn’t even broken in yet. A new one will offer you nothing but different looks. I’d say keep it.

I have a 2012 6.2L max tow platinum. It currently has 52k miles and has been problem free. I will likely keep it another 4 years to a total of 10, maybe longer. I'm very confident in the engine/transmission/drivetrain but I do expect issues down the road specifically around
1) running boards. My auto boards at some point will likely fail.
2) blend door actuators. Seems to be pretty common for the plastic gears to strip
3) sun roof. I actually don't use it and pulled the fuse years ago but it still may leak
The above repairs could easily run 5k but a new truck would be a 25k swing. To me, it makes no sense to trade. If I was to trade, they don't really make a truck that I'm interested in. Maybe the tundra (simple engine, low gears, big tank) but it lacks an 4A mode and rear locker.

You can easily address your worry with an ESP from Ford.
I have a 2013 FX4 with 22K on the odometer. I have an ESP zero deductible premium bumper to bumper plan until 1-2020.
I plan to keep my truck another 5 years so a few months before my current ESP expires I will purchase another ESP (already got a quote) and extend it the full 5 years I plan to keep it.
This gives me 100% coverage if anything on my truck fails.
I prefer to pay 2K for an ESP with zero surprises in the future if something breaks.
Many people balk at extended warranties and say they are a waste of money, and if you don't need to use them then perhaps they are.
But for me its worth it for my stress. I like the idea of being completely covered for anything.
With my ESP I also have first day car rental so if I hear a noise or something isn't right I drop off my truck at a Ford dealer, get my rental and beat on it for a few days until they fix my truck for free. It really is convenient.
I have done so much customizing to my truck that if I were to buy new I would have to do all of that stuff over again to make it like my current truck that I truly love.
So keep it, buy an ESP and spend the next 5 years driving the wheels off with zero risk of needing to come up with money for a surprise repair bill.
FWIW.
