Hey everyone, just found this old thread after doing some research into the payload capacity of my identical 2013 FX4. It’s the 3.5 Ecoboost.
I am completely puzzled by this. When you look at the capacity chart below, there is a whopping 500-600 lbs difference when compared to any other model.

Indeed, the sticker on my door says I only have 1280 lbs capacity. I have great towing rating (9600 lbs) but a ****ty cargo capacity - could someone help explain how this is calculated and why it is so low just on this model?

I would love to be able to bring it up to the 1700-range like the other models.

Only way to raise your payload legally is to sell the truck and buy one with a higher payload. Every option on your truck adds weight and takes away payload. Super Crew Cab added weight, flow thru console with the AC in the back added weight, power seats added weight, Sony sound system added weight and of course your 4 wheel drive system added weight also. Every extra switch, Electric motor and piece of wire adds weight. My Payload and GCWR are in my Signature. FX2 2 Wheel Drive SCab, all of your truck minus the SCrew and 4X4.
Edit, that is not the 2013 Payload chart either, and after the 2015 model year a lot of things changed 2013 F150 Brochure, page 32.

Another thought is that higher capacity tires may make the quality of your ride stiffer and bumps more noticeable.

It is not the tires that limit the payload, it is the truck. I have the stock size tires that are XL and have a 117 Load Capacity at 2,833 pounds per tire and 11332 pounds for the whole truck, my truck is rated by Ford for 7500 pounds. Even looking at the SL they are 111 Load rating and they are 2403 pounds per tire at 9612 pounds for the whole truck so as you can see it is not the the tires.
