Default 2013 Ford f150 XLT headlights won't come on unless it's dark outside

The headlights in my 2013 Ford f150 XLT don't seem to come on at all when I flip the lights on. It's not that they don't ever come on, it just has to be dark outside for them to come on. They never seem to come on at all unless it's already dark outside, otherwise they won't turn on. Running lights still seem to work fine however.

I have no experience with this whatsoever. But if I were just shooting a random guess out (which I am), I’d say it might be the switch itself is broken.

You are sure you are selecting the On position when you're checking this, not the Auto position? Broken switch sounds about right to me, too.

I tried flipping it through all of the options on the light switch and the lights still wouldn't come on until it got dark, so it may not be changing and is just stuck in the auto positions. I'm thinking it might be a broken switch because it sits kind of "loose" in place. But I'll have to check out the switch when I get home from work today.

Don't take this the wrong way but, why would you want your lights on if it isn't dark?

I ask the same question whenever the topic of DRLs comes up. Unless mandated by govt or something.

I have my headlights set as DRL's. Keep the switch in "auto" mode too.

When driving on the highway in rain or fog, and the outside light is such that my lights will not turn on automatically, I will turn them on with the switch.

I like to be the one on the road with common sense, and not rely on my truck to do something I should do myself.

OP - It sounds like maybe a switch problem.

I have almost never have to do that, I only touch the switch to flash people that don't have their lights on. In Auto, they turn on when the wipers are on. And it seems very capable of sensing appropriate light levels. I'm impressed with this system. My previous vehicle was pretty good, this one is better.
