Anyone have a better description of where this pipe runs on the back side of the motor? I have my truck on the ground so I cant really get underneath the truck to see back there (gotta close the hood to be able to jack it up and get underneath it). Im just not sure how the pipe is connected/secured on the back side to make sure I didn't accidentally loosen it or something.

This write up is worth its weight in gold. I took it all apart yesterday, gonna try and put it back together tonight (couldnt find the parts in the brands I wanted on a Sunday)
The pipe is on top its a straight pipe. You wont be able to see it from under the truck. It enters under the intake by the firewall, even from on top its hard to see. If it is still in the air, then it didnt separate from the back of the engine just press the housing on and you should be GTG. On the rear it enters another welded pipe so unless you bent it theres nothing you could have wiggled loose. You can replace the o ring for extra security.

thank you! I appreciate the PM response as well. I pushed the pipe back and it snapped back in place then when pushed the housing on it all lined up perfect.

Other tips:

i have crappy microfiber towels I finally thought about and put them over the top of the fan on each side, no longer tearing up my arms. Tuck them under the harness to hold em

i put coolant on that black pipe, oring and the port on the housing to ease assembly. I put coolant on the necks and in the hose openings, went on worlds easier (mine was apart for a day).

Lastsly I spray stoner window cleaner on the outside of the hoses to make it easier to slide those spring clamps up in place since I never bought the tool for those things.

Again, this thread is a life/$ saver

Big warning on that and be careful. After I replaced my water pump, apparently opening and closing those spring clamps made them weak. I was on a hill climb the next weekend on the I-5 and one came off the waterpump and almost all of my coolant came out. I always replace them with the normal screw type.

Also worth noting, I read a thread where someone put too much pressure "sideways" on that pipe and it caused the rear crossover connection to leak at the heads. There are two seals that hold that rear plastic piece to the heads.

Hey guys first of all great write up and love the detail!. I'm new to the forum, but I have been working on my truck for a while now doing different things here and there. I did have a question about the pipe that goes though the center of the head. Does anyone know with the housing removed if the pipe will come all the way out? I bought both o-ring seals and wanted to replace them if I can get to both. I was looking and it looks like it will but I wanted to verify with you guys first or before I pulled the fans out. Thanks for the help in advance!

If anyone needs help replacing turbos or the coolant fittings let me know I'm currently working on that now.

It will come forward but the pipe is long. I'm not sure if removing the fans will give you enough clearance or if you need to pull the radiator. Unless you have a leak at the rear side I wouldn't pull it as pulling it would more likely cause a leak than not touching it.

Excellent write up! I just pulled the water pump and noticed that the tube on the lower side of the block had a black ring around it. I assumed it was the o-ring from the original water pump so I pulled it off only to find that it wasn't the water pump o-ring. It's some sort of metal ring with rubber coating and unfortunately it's a bit chewed up from pulling it out with pliers. Does anyone have any idea what part number this is? I see more black "material" further up inside but i'm scared to get that out now. I'm at a standstill for now until I can figure this out. Thanks so much for the help!

Thanks for the response! Unfortunately, no. That is the o-ring that I thought was there which is included with the new water pump kit. It's just a standard rubber o-ring. This one has an inner metal ring.
