Default 2013 5.0L Engine Replacement

2009 - 2014 Ford F150 General discussion on 2009 - 2014 Ford F150 truck.

2013 5.0L Engine ReplacementI have a 2013 F150 5.0L with 300,000km on the truck. I use the truck for work in the oilpatch in AB and it does take a beating. That being said, I have only done the brakes twice and replaced the water pump. Its been a great truck and I love the room in the cab for work.

The truck was running rough and threw a code. Cylinder 4 misfire. I took it to my mechanic thinking it needed new plugs. The mechanic called and said that cylinder 4 only has 90psi. He ran it wet and dry and the same thing so he knows it is something mechanical. We've decided the best route, with the mileage is probably an engine replacement. I called a shop in Edmonton and they quoted me $6800 for a rebuilt 5.0 longblock and 24hrs labour. With miscellaneous costs it came to just under $11,000. Is that a ballpark figure? My mechanic, said if I can find an engine, he'll put it in for between $1700-2000.

Can I go with a different year or different size engine or do I only have to look at 5.0L 2013 engines when I am looking at wrecker? I have been able to find some low mileage 2015 5.0L for around $4000.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

It would be easier to stick with the 5.0L that way you don't need to change any harnesses or parts. 2015+ are different in a few ways so it won't work. You can go through 09-14. Shouldn't be hard to find some, go on car-part.com and enter in year and model and search engines from nearby yards.

I was talking to somebody and they were saying if it was built after 01/04/13, I could go with a newer engine. I don't know if that is true or not. Mine was built in July 2013

Make that '11-'14. 2011 was the first year for the Coyote in the F-150. (I don't know if there's anything incompatible with the '15+ engines.)

Also, you'll want to stick with a '13 or '14, as there were a few of the earlier 5.0s that had problems, and there may not be a good way to diagnose them in the wrecking yard.

Sorry, you're right. I was thinking model years, but 11-14 is right. Better to stick with 13 and 14 engines, mine was built in March of 13 I believe so I got one from the same build date.

15 and up are completely different engines. Don't they have port and direct injection starting in 15.

I have no idea what the differences are. I was told since my truck was built after April 2013 a 2015 would work. I was hoping I could get some better direction from some pros on here. I am able to find a reasonably priced 2015 5.0L but I am having trouble finding a 2013 or 2014.

The Coyote now has port and direct injection, but I think it was added in '18, not '15.
