Default 2012 FX4 Adding OEM Backup Camera

Just got my 2012 FX4 (no reverse sense or camera) and wish I had a backup camera. Does anyone know what's involved to install the OEM backup camera? If I remember correctly it displays on the information center on the instrument cluster on non-NAV 2012s. I was hoping its possible to get the tailgate camera, plug in, and be operational. Probably not that easy.

Don't know what's involved, but the display is actually in the left side of the rear view mirror.

It's way easier and cheaper to get it on the truck in the first place. I imagine you'd need around a thousand bucks in parts and a whole lotta time on your hands.

You'd need the tailgate camera, mounting plate, probably a new wiring harness in the roof and a new rear view mirror with the screen. They're used to be an eBay seller that sold the entire package for under $300 when I looked into it for my '10.

I got my mirror off ebay for about 120.00 I think and then spent another 340 with Tasca getting the camera, bezel, emblem, required harnesses and other bits and pieces.

For me the hardest part was doing the headliner, but it still wasn't even that bad, just have to drop down the drivers side. Headliner harness is glued in, so where I could not pull it up, I just cut the old one and left a couple of pieces up there...

Theres a pretty extensive thread on this. You can search and read through it. But in short about $400-$500 and requires replacing the trucks main wiring harness. You can run custom wiring and not get the option in your lcd, but still requires a lot of time. There have been a lot of people interested in this, me included, but after seeing all that's involved I'm looking at other options.
