This basically has zero relevance, but my 2014 w/34,000 does not have a single anything... when I turn the wheel hard left or right. When driving it's tight, no loose feeling. This is actually the first time I've even thought about the mechanics of my steering. It's been so solid.

The steering knuckle will probably loosen up today now... watch!

Good luck with your search.
Every Ford I buy just keeps getting better.
Used 82 F250 beater 300ci 6-cylinder. 300,000 miles and I still got a grand for it in 1991.
Then 3, Chevy 2500's reg cab 8 ft beds. From 91 to 2000. All of them had issues of some kind.
New 2005 fx4 150,000 mi, extremely reliable. Awful powertrain w/5.4 mated to the 4 speed. Just no *****.
Used 2010 fx4 56,000 mi, reliable for the short time I had it. 5.4 mated to the 6 speed. Whole new animal. Great set-up! Might've probably still had it, if the previous owner didn't scratch or stain every square inch inside & out!
New 2014 fx4 34,000 mi, love it! Does everything great and still smells new, occasionally...
Strongly thinking about the 2018 5.0 w/10 speed and styling update. I'm thinking rocket ship! But in 2019 the Interior will get done over. so you can't win.
It'll be my last new truck. So I want to make sure it's a good one!

How about oil consumption? Yours use much?

With the truck off my steering wheel is locked so it's kinds tough to turn. While it's running I don't notice any noise from the rack and with the windows up, the music playing I doubt I'll hear anything any ways. I'm past any stage in my life of paranoia to listen for any small creaking in my truck or if it were the case I'd never own any vehicle cuz they ALL make noises of some sort. I have the slightest of play in my steering but it's had it since its new, so does my Mustang, my Explorer, my Jag, my Land Rover, my Cougar...see where this is going? My dealer changes my oil so as far as consumption goes I don't know but the dealer has never told me it's an issue. Typically, unlike GM vehicles, Fords don't have oil consumption issues. The truck has an Oil light to warn me of any issues and none of my vehicles have ever displayed this light, lit. Again, for me, this would fall into the "paranoia" stage.
I take very good care of my truck, it gets all the services at prescribed intervals. If the truck was serviced at the same store for most of it's life they should have good records of the services performed. A carfax will also give some insight as to the issues the truck may have had.
