The problem was the word "coil", it should have been "coin". Autocorrect, I assume.

Yup, this is the "Coin Type". You DO NOT want to use this type.



Do not use this type for gapping modern plug types.




Use the "pull" type as cmbezln posted above.

OK. That's what I used on two of my plugs before I took it to a shop. The core only touched metal when I checked the gap. When I did the adjustments I was careful not to touch the core.
