I was shocked at the price of trucks when I went around looking for one. Today, while driving on I-20, I found this sense of pride, where all the F-150 trucks were "high fiving" with that look from passengers. I saw some beautiful trucks, mostly Lariat Limited and King Ranchs, and Harleys. King Ranch is one of my favorites. However, that's too rich for my blood. I stuck with what I consider a basic truck with conveniences - XLT. However, when looking at my son's truck, I thought it was an XLT, but to my surprise it turns out to be an XL with several upgrades I thought were particular to the XLT and avove. The higher models don't seem to have anything I'm truly interested in at this time. I like my tires, rims, SYNC, power windows, seats and all. I'm happy, which in sales lingo means a good deal. I paid right at $20K for a 2010 Tuxedo Black SCrew XLT and love it. Though I may have been able to find a better deal if I looked harder, I was content with my purchase since this will be in mine for many years to come.

Did you purchase new or "pre-owned" and why? I feel like there is less anxiety in buying a pre-owned since those little ding anxieties are absent. Ding's in new vehicles really hurt the first time. What's great about trucks to me is that a truck with a dent/ding is one with character and shows it's actually being used as a truck. There's a since of pride in my view. Though new is great, I feel like taking a hammer and putting the first one to get it out of the way. So buying a truck with a ding makes the process much easier to me. Otherwise I obsess.

  1. Sticker prices on new Ford trucks have little to do with what people are paying, so comparing 2011 sticker prices to your final price isn't really comparable. Figure invoice minus rebates for a good starting point.
  2. 2011 introduced four new great engines. While us 3.5 guys are always debating with the 5.0, 6.2, and 3.7 guys on which motor is best, very few will argue that every single one of the 2011 motors isn't a major improvement over the older engines.

As a pricing example, 2011 2WD XLT SuperCrew EcoBoost stickers for about $35K, invoices for ~$31.6K, and has another $4K of rebate, so it would have been around $27.6K, or $7.6K more for a new zero mile full warranty latest EcoBoost engine truck (and lower interest rates as well).

Smart A@@ comments are free too, aye? I tried to fix it but nothing worked. The reason it because I copied MSRP prices and the post was too long so I just put the link instead.

What is the point of the OP's post? Buy used if you don't want a new truck.
