Unhappy 2011 FX4 Passenger Mirror MELTED!

Looks like my mirror defroster works a bit too well... Hopefully, the dealer doesn't void my warranty because I put LED's in my puddle lights

Right or wrong pretty sure they will deny the claim since it is not stock

I would swap the stock lights back in asap, or if not, just hope they cover it

Do you have the LED blinker, or did you just replace the actual puddle light (downward facing light)?

Either way, it would be silly to deny the claim because of LEDs. I didn't think they could generate enough heat to melt plastic. Correct me if I am wrong.

I had my headlights melt on my 2008 Camry. Dealer said it was ice build up blocking the projector lamp from dispersing the light. I rebutted with the fact that I cleared off the headlights before I got in my car every time. I claimed it was the poor design of the lamps. They were like a shelf that allowed melted snow/ice to run down the lamps and build up, and then when you would start driving, the water would freeze. Anyway, only had an issue once, and they covered it under warranty.

Best of luck to you.

When does that thing come on? Is it automatic whenever the defrost is pressed or what?

The denying my warranty part was sarcasm...

If they deny my claim for swapping out my puddle lights that's absurd! I didn't do the LED turn signal mod. The plastic around the puddle light assembly is 100% fine including the lens which would melt first. Secondly, the puddle lights are hardly on long enough to cause the required heat to melt my entire mirror housing... It's definitely a defect in the heating element in the mirror. We'll see what happens tomorrow when I take it to the dealer

Older models were always on, now they only come on when the rear defrost is selected.

Swapping lights back would require ordering a new assembly. You can only swap to LED's by disassembling the housing (PITA) and gluing it back together after swapping lights...(Stupid IMO)
