2011 F-150 Lariat Rear Defrost Problems

Yes. They really should. I had my defrost inop and then rear window exploded. Thankfully my glass stayed intact and didnt rain down on my newborn son who was sitting underneath it. Ford played dumb then, and they still do. I called all the dealers in my area, and ford directly and none of them "had ever heard of such a problem".I was told I was sol and it would cost $1200. A 10 sec google search shows tons of people who have had it happen, yet they continue to deny that it is an issue. I was 2k miles out of warranty when it happened (but it seems hit or miss on whether warranty would even cover it). Thankfully it only cost $100 through my insurance to get a new rear window. Now my rear defrost doesnt work at all.

When you had the window replaced was it done through your dealer? Did they replace the whole unit, or just the glass in the area that shattered? Was the defrost working at one point after it was replaced?

Sorry to hear - thankfully your son was not injured. I worry about this myself with my 2 boys in the back.

Rear defroster /heated seats
So I took my truck in to have the fuel saver done and have them check not only my inop heated driver seat but the rear defroster as well since I paid for the extended warranty. Dealer calls me this afternoon and said the contacts bad on the rear glass but it is not covered under the extended warranty. I questioned how something electrical is not covered and no avail. The heated seats had a code and was reset however it still doesn't work. The best part was I paid $105 for a diagnostics check for the window-Beyond pissed with this issue on top of the sub par service-

I just had mine in the shop 2 weeks ago. The center window had 2 bad spots in it. I had 20% tint added on top of factory and they told me since I modified the truck it was no longer covered. I completely freaked on them. The stupid mechanic kept telling me that the adhesive I used to apply it ruined the elements in the window. Long story short they are putting in a new 1 next week and it is covered by warranty.

inop rear defrost
my 2012 was still under warranty and the dealer told me it was not covered so ive been without it for a while now and now its out of warranty.
I guess it all depends on if your dealer sucks or not but either way ford should issue a recall

F150 rear defrost problem
I have to same issue. I noticed that a number of people had there windows covered by ESP after the warranty expired. Why are some people getting it fixed for free an others paying for it? One poster said Alan Mulany even went to bat for him to get it fixed. I have been a long time Ford owners and have bought 8 vehicles from Ford in the last 20 years. I paid a lot of $$ for my 2011 Platinum and bought the extended warranty. I believe Ford should fix it under the ESP.

New member here from London, Ont., Canada. I recently purchased a 2010 SCAB FX4, with only 39,000 km. Truck has ESP, and in the several months I have had it, I have had one of the heater blend doors replaced (knocking behind dash area), and most recently, the entire rear window replaced for inoperable rear defrost - both free under ESP. The service advisor did mention that the clerk who inputs warranty claims, had to do some computer magic to get the rear window claim processed in the system.

You guys that are having this problem need to go to the NHTSA site and start filing complaints. Call them as well and push it. If they get enough complaints they will open an investigation, it is a safety issue and they can force a recall. It is clearly a defect. Complaints in this forum won't get you too far.
Ford is going to dick around with this until injuries start, or an infant in a rear facing seat is blinded by an exploding window. It's cheaper for them to replace the window here or there, or force the cost back to the owner than to recall and replace them en masse. They will have to be forced into it.
I traded my 2012 f150 on a new 2015 f250 SD, and it's already been back to the dealer once because the whole truck is shaking at highway speeds. Now it's going back in at 2500 miles for the same thing. The dealer gets three attempts and I'm done with it, lemon time.
I've already lemon'ed a vehicle before and won, no problem doing it again. I'm about done with Ford and their nonsense.
