Yeah I’ll probably do that. It’s quick and easy to rule out.

no, I haven’t been parking with the wheel straight cause im trying to figure out this issue. So I park with it turned all the way to the right this time, left this time, etc.

when it is locked up, I can grab the steering shaft and rock it back and forth slightly. It isn’t seized. And that wouldn’t make sense for it to just continuously seize up while driving. I constantly need to jerk the steering wheel back and forth as it locks up in both directions.
You're driving this thing??? I wouldn't take it out of the driveway if it's doing it while driving!

Hope you've got $1300 saved up for a new rack.

I do if that’s the issue. I’m just not convinced yet that it is. If it is, I’ll order one right away.

Figured I’d update this;

Today it now put out an advancetrac warning as well as power steering warning. Not sure what exactly that adds to the diagnosis but I’m thinking it’s time to buy a whole new rack assembly.

I’d love to know what percentage of these racks failed. I doubt we will ever know !

I’d love to know and I’d love for Ford to accept some sort of responsibility for them. I get that parts just fail, but this is a big flaw and a huge safety issue.

Only about a grand right now at Rock.

Might be worth checking the wire connector on the rack, make sure it isn't just a corroded connector before replacing the whole thing.
