2011+ 55-60mph 5.0 Shuddering and EcoBoost Engine Miss/Loss of Power - Possible Fixes
#1361
Well this in essence is why I switched from GMC. Though I want a turbo diesel engine in a truck like the TDI Touareg has, amazing technology and you wouldn't believe you're even driving a diesel but what Ford is doing here with Ecoboost is the closest available.
But I am up to five problems now, two very serious, and one potentially deadly. They've got 2 months.

Just a quick FYI for those of us who are heading in the lemon law direction and drive less than average:
Oil changes - As indicated by the message center: do not exceed one year or 10,000 miles
In my case, I drive less than average. My vehicle currently has 5,300 miles. The vehicle was manufactured on 6/25/11, but I didn't buy it until 10/17/11. The initial oil change WILL be due on 6/25/12 (1 year from the initial fill) It is possible that Ford may say we breached the warranty agreement by not changing the oil as specified if this initial change is not done based on the build date, not the purchase date.

A quick update regarding my truck.
I felt as though the high speed shudder was fixed with mine, however I rarely drive on the highway, and when I do its rarely long enough to really test if it still exists.
I had the 12-2-10 TSB and all of my tires rebalanced as the front 2 were "really out of balance", this had fixed the issue for me.
Today I had an opportunity to put some highway miles on, about 60 at highway speed. My trip had quite a few decent grades on it, I ascended with and without cruise control driving at about 55 MPH to 65 MPH.
When I left the weather conditions:
Temp. 57
Dew Point 46
Humidity 67%
Return trip:
Temp. 70
Dew Point 45
Humidity 40%
Neither one was ideal to reproduce the shudder, but I cant control the weather.
Results were shudder free. Truck drove smooth as glass, not sure on the fuel economy as I had not reset the meter.
I have a long trip to Baltimore and back next week. I will be keeping a close eye on the shudder and fuel economy and will report those results when I get back.

Last two days here beautiful with no shudder, today its colder with rain shuttered the whole 40 miles to my parents. Didn't see anything on the torque during the shutter, boost stayed the same along with everything else I looked at, but the weather really makes a difference with something here. One day it runs great the next runs like s***.

It sure seems to me that there may be a bad ground or connection that acts up as soon as it's raining or humid out. Otherwise wouldn't mine have shown intercooler condensation symptoms after 22,000kms of wet, cool Canadian west coast weather?
Not one hiccup in over a year and a third of that would qualify as dew point danger zone.
Perhaps I got lucky when the electrical connections were put together on the assembly line.

Of course, that was the first of my three NO FAULT FOUND problem trips too for LL if necessary - none of which were fixed and then realized they put 5W20 oil in it so had to go back and even redo that - on their dime of course.
