So for those of you that have engines that use oil i have a couple questions.

Has it used oil since brand new?

How did you treat the motor during the first 500 miles?

It should be; I'm doing it as are several members. The Mustang's 5.0 with Track Pack says to use 5w50 and as far as anyone can tell, the oiling system is the same.

Start here and read all the chapters:

http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/motor-oil-101/

Like I was saying on page 2 of this thread, 0W40 is far better for an engine. But if you're under warranty, you're kind of stuck with OE spec. Sigh....

The reason 2011 and some 2012 5.0s use oil is because the cylinders were bored improperly at the factory. I have never in my life had a vehicle use oil and I've had dozens of cars, SUVs, and trucks.

I'm also a member at bobistheoilguy (BITOG) and motor oil 101 is very dated and may no longer be accurate.

The consensus is that CAFE is responsible for the thinner oil movement, saving .3 mpg at the cost of our engines' durability.

Sure. Your motor doesnt know differents, dont waste oil.

7500 is possible but depends on how you driving and how do you use your truck. I wouldnt feel good about pushing to 7500 without any report plus also gotta plan to switch filter before 7500.

I agree driving habits have an impact. However the vast majority of us can go 7500 and beyond including filters that have extended life. I've gone 10k for years using top quality pure synthetics that advertise 15k durability with no issues. Motors don't turn as much rpm anymore with the 6 gears instead of 3, 4, or 5. 5w20 I wouldn't as it is thinner and it's viscosity breaks down earlier. This is my experience.

It won't hurt to mix it.
By the way, some new vehicles are now running 0W-20.
