Default 2011 5.0 tune options

Just put a set of 275/70r18 destination mt's on. Gas mileage 19 to 16 now. Slight loss of power/pep. Some have suggested the 5 star brand x4 programmer and to buy it from stage three motors. The stage three people will email a custom tune, taking into consideration my tires and any other mods. What I'm concerned with is for one spending four hundred bucks on it and two hurting my engine/transmission. If I'm not using my truck for a daily driver, I'm using it to pull a boat or trailer with a four wheeler on it. I want it to behave normally, like back to stock so I don't need a drag truck. I don't want to strain it, just get my performance back and maybe increase the mpg. What do you guys think?

The drivability of 5 Star perf/tow tunes are amazing. You don't have to worry about that. It isn't like a drag truck. The performance tunes are another story.

Plus Stage 3 offers a warranty program for the 5 Star tunes. If that doesn't tell you that it isn't over stressing the engine then I don't know what will. So far they are the only custom tuner that offers this option.

Stage 3 has also not had to pay out on a single warranty claim yet if that tells you how safe the 5 star tunes are. The 5 star tunes not only wake the truck a good bit but they make it drive more like it should. Transmission isn't trying to rush up to 6th gear any more and the throttle response and drive by wire lag is greatly improved. I highly recommend 5 star tunes and if you're worried get the warranty, its $500 worth of peace of mind.

You couldn't have said that any better.

Thanks guys. Awesome responses. If anybody else has something to add feel free. I'll probably add the tuner to the ol wish list. You think I could get a used one on eBay for cheaper? Maybe send it in to 3 stage? Just wish I didn't have to spend 400!

The thing is that the $400 includes 5 custom tunes on it. eBay you can get the programmer for around $300. But the custom tunes would bring your cost to over $400. So it is easier to just go through the vendor. But it is up to you if you want custom tunes or not.

I'm either going with MPT or five star. Leaning more toward MPT considering you save a few bucks using the coupon code. Along with adding my tire size, I'm going to choose 89 octane towing and performance tune, and probably the 93 octane towing tune if I use MPT. All transmission options on the street setting
