My '11 sounds exactly the same. Haven't bothered getting it looked at yet, maybe in the spring.
My dad's '11 F150 5.0 doesn't make the sound. All you hear on it is the valvetrain and injectors.

My '11 has the same noise. Comes and goes. Had it to the dealer and of course it only did it for a few seconds. Was told it was normal, but they documented it and told me to come back if it gets worse. What I don't understand is if it was normal, why did they document they heard a noise?

Is it still under warranty? I'm on my second 5.0. The first one was an '11 and neither sounded like that. I sold my '11 to a close friend and it's still going strong.

Yeah it only has 36k. Doesn't do it all the time.

I had a 13 that did the same at 17k miles. Traded it. Miss it. Sound pissed me off, though. Mainly just replied to see if you find anything out. The dealer pretty much told me to come back if it got worse, but I didn't want to wait for it to get worse.

It's piston slap I believe. My 2011 has 65,000 miles and makes the same noise and uses about a quart of oil every 2,500 miles. Runs great and ford says its normal lol. If it blows I'll put a new motor in. I like the truck to much to sell or trade.

Correct. I am a Ford Technician in Canada. I have replaced two 5.0L short blocks for this issue. Most commonly cylinders 3 and 4. Ford states to first remove RH valve cover and remove exhaust cam caps and re-install and torque. This does not fix the noise. It's a piston slap.

Thanks for the info. Guess I will wait another 30k before I battle the dealership.
