2011 5.0 Engine knock
I guess until you experience crappy service it's hard to understand what people go through trying to get their trucks fixed sometimes. My dads 2011 screw 5.0 has a distinct knock at idle, when he bought it it was a very faint noise but now it's really noticeable, the truck has 70k on it now and it had 57k at time of purchase. The first dealership he took it too they acknowledged they heard the noise but it was t covered under the warranty that was bought with the truck. Basically it was their way of saying we don't want to touch this because it would require dropping the oil pan and removing the engine. So we took it back to the dealership about 2 hours away where he bought it from and they took it in with no problems until they heard the knocking. They wanted to know if we changed the oil every 5000 miles and wanted receipts showing this. So my dad went back to the auto parts store and got his receipts which he only got 2 of them because the one store doesn't have access to anything beyond 3 months. He turned them in and they said this doesn't show proof you changed the oil. Really did he just buy oil to stockpile it incase the world runs out??? Now this is the place he bought the truck from with the warranty and they are fighting it. My dad told him he would like his money back for the warranty since they won't honor it and that the dealership will be going to the higher ups and get back to him today on their final answer about what they plan on dogoing my with this. They also said they never heard of a problem with the 5.0s knocking like this and that everything online is basically BS. It's downright frustrating and disgusting dealing with dealerships and their BS

Lmfao really? So Thousands of people are making up this "Knocking noise" that seems to be somewhat common on the 5.0s? Riiiggghhhhtttt...... There are even videos all over youtube showing the knock.
Maybe you can get a ford rep on here to help you out.

Well a update and crappy one at that. The warranty company is claiming the engine is gummed up because of not changing the oil which is a load of BS because it's been changed 3x in 13k miles. I'm just as angry at the dealership for not evening looking into this problem as somethings that is normal with the 5.0s. They are basically taking the warranty company side as saying its owner neglect. Words alone don't describe how disgusted I am. I don't even know where to go now. Anyone with any suggestions? Please !
Thousands? I've been following the knocking issues for the last year or so. In fact, I went on YouTube and collected all the videos I could find of the 5.0 knocking, and posted them in the large knocking thread. There were only a few different ones. There are only a maximum of 30 different people in that thread that say they have a knocking noise.
I have the knocking noise as well.
When I got my oil changed at the dealership where I bought my truck, I asked the technician about the knock and he said that more than likely it was cam phasers. He said as long as your truck doesn't drop oil pressure or do anything bad it will be fine. I'm still watchful of it, I monitor the oil psi, idle speed all that.

A number of years ago now I went through this with my 2011 5.0. Argued for over 2 years with my dealer about it while the truck was on warranty. Noise started around the 30xxx km mark. Finally I was at 93xxx kms and almost off warranty and was still getting the run around. That's when my tone changed and basically looked into legal action. I found out what I could potentially do and essentially told the service manager (via voicemail because he wouldn't take my call) that if I didn't hear from him that we would be going the legal action route. Up here in Canada there is no lemon laws but there is an arbitrator that is apparently neutral that will hear both sides and make a ruling. I had all service done at this dealer via some service package when I bought it and it was well documented about my complaints of knocking. The threat seemed to pay off as he called me literally less than 5 minutes later. We agreed to have them look at it again and this time do a test I requested which was to turn each cylinder off one at a time while it's running. Long story short the knock went away on one cylinder when it was shut off. In the end they put a "new" short block in my truck and after the tear down found metal in the cylinder wall. I thought way back then that I read some early 2011's got out the door with a couple oblong cylinders in the 5.0 but it's been years since I went through this. Has 156xxx kms now and running great. Hope you get it figured out. Most dealers suck.
