Default Update

OK SO AN UPDATE ON MY 126" WHEELBASE (reg cab short bed trucks) DILEMMA

so a week ago I ordered a 9L3Z-5A212-A because that is what was listed for 126" trucks. it came in and was too short for a direct bolt in. its approx 13" long. to keep the stock exhaust you would have to add an additional 12" of pipe.

my 126" truck has a resonator pipe which is approx 25" long.

so I took a 2nd guess at this and ordered a 9L3Z-5A212-B which is for 133" trucks.

STRIKE 2!!!!
the 9L3Z-B is approx 18" long. WTH !?!?!

so I give up. I am gonna keep the first one and return the 2nd one and just contine on with my flowmaster plans.
I wanted to try out the stock exhaust without the resonator, but each pipe I order takes3 business days to come in and taking weekends into consideration we are talking a week or so each time. I am basically just tired of waiting to get some sort of louder exhaust put on this truck. so I will just slap the short one on, add a length of pipe to get the muffler where I want it at and fab up some hangers/have some made and call it done.

my Roush CAI came in today and my tonneau cover "should" show up tomorrow. I have a nice weekend of mods ahead of me for sure.

here is a pic of the 2 pipes along with a standard 12" ruler for reference
the short one on bottom is a 9L3Z-5A212-A which is for 2009-10 126" trucks and the longer one on top is a 9L3Z-5A212-B which is for 2009-10 133" trucks

A little note..... I was towing this weekend, and I can hear the exhaust clearly with the window down or up. Under load the resonator delete really adds some volume, and makes it sound sweet.

At one point I had to pass some ***-hat that passed me and slowed down. Between the intake screaming, and the exhaust booming off the side of his vehicle, he got the point. But that was when I really noticed it, when it reflected off another vehicle. I would say it amounted to a 30% increase in volume from stock at its loudest point, which occurs around 2700- 3200 rpm.
Thanks for the information! Just out of curiosity to shorten it, did you just cut it then re-weld it? I'm thinking when I get back of doing the resonator delete then put on a Magnaflow muffler. Seems like one of the best combinations of nice exhaust note, turbo hiss but not overly loud (some people like the exhaust to be louder but I prefer a slightly lower type of growl with out it being too loud). When I get back state side and get this set up I'll be sure to post some sound clips up

Yup. Cut and weld. Still worth the effort, as it is reversible. Basically, you are buying the collar and flange, when you buy this part, and then chopping the pipe that comes as part of it.

My resonator on my 145" is 30" tip to tip. I know you said you're giving up, just throwing the info up there so it's out there.

well I ended up NOT giving up completely.
I found there is one more part number not listed above. it is for 2010 5.4 133" trucks. I have it coming in sometime next week. the main reason I went with it is because its about 1/2 the price of the other 2 pips. both of the other ones are close to 100 bux, whereas the other number I ordered is only about 50 or so.
I will update again once I have my next pipe.

Is there a difference between the 2009-2010 and 2011+ part besides the price?

  • 2009-10: Straight pipe.
  • 2011+: Resonator.

I deleted mine on my rcsb today by cutting the flange off the muffler and resonator and welding in 28 inches of 3 in pipe. Sounds a little deeper that's about it.

Maybe a dumb question, but will this void warranty?

It's Ford. Of course it will.
