The mechanic which came out did say the cable was disconnected at the shifter.
Well, did he reconnect or repair that particular issue?

I reconnected the next morning and the shifter was in neutral. I put it in park and into drive. Each time the transmission engaged properly. So now, I know the only thing wrong is the shift cable bushing. Frustrating, but at least I now know exactly what the problem is.

Bad shift cable bushing

Sounds like progress. Hope it all turns out well!

Did you get the shift interlock issue solved yet?

There's nothing wrong with the shift interlock, the only issue is that stupid plastic bushing. I'm trying to find one at a local auto store, but I'm not 100% sure of which one to buy. I bought an assortment pack based on a video I saw for a previous gen F150, hoping it would work and it didn't. My brother sent me another product # to look at but they said they didn't have it in stock at AutoZone, but I found it in their app this morning and it says in stock. I think the guy at AZ was fat fingering the search in the computer because he was saying they didn't have anything matching "shift bushing". Either that or their search is based on exact match and not contains. I plan to swing by there this morning and see what they have that looks like the bad one.
