Default 2010 FX4 Upgrades

I have a 2010 FX4 5.4 and I am looking to get a cold air intake, exhaust system, and a chip. I'm pretty set on a Volant intake, a Flowmaster exhaust system, and a Bully Dog chip. Wondering what yall thought.

Do a search and you'll find there are much better options out there. These engines get more than enough air to them through the stock CAI. If you want to reduce restrictions and get a dyno proven gain, look into the Gotts mod. The exhaust is really your opinion on sound. A chambered muffler is a step backwards from stock, as the stock muffler is a hybrid. If you want a little performance increase, look for a straight through muffler, if you like the chambered sound go that way. "Canned" programmers such as the Bully dog cannot properly account for modifications, such as intake changes. A custom programmer such as the SCT x3 is a far better investment.

On my 2010 FX4 with the 5.4L I ended up hating everying I did to that truck. The exhaust drone (magnaflow SI/SO, rear passenger side exit), the intake droned, the tuner (tried two of them) was too agressive, ended up gonig with a custom tune to put some torque management back in.

If you look at the TB, exhaust, and intake track, Ford has done a lot of work to silence things. If you don't mind the drone then you will like the mods. Me, I couldn't stand it.

Performance was nice, for a big truck with little invested it moved pretty well (all things considered), it wasn't going to break any land speed records

+1 on not getting Flows cause they are chambered. I just installed a Magnaflow Single In Duel Out Stainless Steel Catback and it is amazing. Not too lound and just the right rumble. Flows will be pretty loud and wont perform as well as a straight through muffler.

I don't hate, everyone's entitled to do what they want with their own trucks. I have my opinions from my experiences in the automotive world, but I don't own your truck so you do what makes you happy.*

*I will hate your truck if it has a huge wing on it. There's no forgiveness for that.

Otto,

Are you thinking about moving to a newer truck anytime soon. I would be interested in your take on the 2010 and 2011's from an owner perspective.

Thanks,

Thanks,
I've been strongly considering upgrading, but haven't made the leap. The old truck just won't give me a good reason to retire it. I usually turn the old vehicles into farm beaters after they start aging. I'll probably end up in a 04-08 just because I'm too cheap to spring for a newer model. "Work" for me is only 300 ft out the garage door to the barnyard, so the good truck is only there for heading to town and long distance parts runs.
I try to stay up with the current models the best I can knowledge wise, but I'm sure actually owning one would give me time to tinker around with it.

As far as the intake i want to get the best performance and efficiency gains for my truck. price is not really an issue so i am not looking for a cheap way to do kinda the same thing.(this is what gotts mods appears to me to be) i've looked at magnaflow exhaust systems now for more performace gains. also i was wonder what brand chips should i get to compensate for the modifications i'm doing. again price is not really an issue i just want to do the best upgrades for my truck.
