Default 2010 FX4 Diff leak???

Hi, my trucks in the shop getting an exhaust system put on. As the truck is on the lift I get a good look at my differential case and notice something. Heres a pic I just took. Can anybody tell me if it's normal to have this or should I have the dealer take a look. To be honest I'm not too impressed with the amount of rust on the axle either. I'll add the two pics to show. The truck only has 12000 kms on it. But I do live in harsh Alberta.

The surface rust is completely normal.

As far as the fuild, my 2010 doesn't have that on it. I don't know what to tell you.

At best, differentials get a very thin lair of paint. Living in Edmonton, Alberta I imagine they use a lot of salt on the roads in the winter time. Salt and bare metal will always result in rust.

I hate to use the work normal but it is very common.

Onto the more important issue the leak I would get it looked at. **** you paid for a warranty when you paid for the truck might as well use it. And have them check out the rust to and get it documented. That way in case a problem arises later you can show you brought it to their attention.

My 2010 has the rust already as well, but not quite as bad as yours. No leak on mine though. Living in WI, I get a fair share of the winter salting as well.

From everything I've read in other threads on here and people I've talked to, the concensus seems to be that it's normal.

Reading about others that have done this, I even looked under some new one's on the dealer's lot and found some to already have rust on the differential and some spots on the axle. Some worse than others and some had none. I didn't believe it until I actually saw it for myself. Chances are mine had some already when I bought it. Never looked underneath during the sales process, but I will going forward.
