i love the black leather in my 09 lariat, i havent experienced any of the 2012 leather though. compared to the leather in my dads bmw its nothing to boast about, but we're driving trucks not luxury sedans haha.

I had a 2005 FX4 w/ black leather and now have my 2011 FX2 w/ black leather and they are a night and day difference. The 2005 definitely had the plastic coating or cover on the so called "leather" and started to flake off over time as the seat was used more.

I've had my 2011 two weeks and already conditioned the leather and mine does NOT have that plastic stuff on it. I haven't been inside a 2009-2010 truck to see if they changed the leather to 2011, but it's a VERY good quality leather in the 2011.

My 09 has about 12000 miles on it and there is a wavy spot right in the middle of my seat as well. I took it to the dealer and they said that it was "normal" and not to worry about it.

2011 FX4, black plastic-coated leather seats, 5000 miles, big butt. No problems yet.

From past threads it looks like Ford may have changed the seats slightly between 2010 and 2011 - 2010s had many complaints about seat sagging, haven't heard much on the 2011s.

The textured seat material in FX4s is not leather but a vinyl.

Years ago "leather" implied leather where the seat & back made contact with your body. Now it's called "leather trim" which reduces the amount of leather even more, and Ford uses the FX4's sportiness as an excuse to use a sturdier but cheaper faux leather where you sit.

I had quality custom leather in my FX4 Screw that held up well. But truth is, you can't have belt key chains and junk in your pockets or you'll eventually cause damage. Metal zippers and buttons on jackets are evil too.
