Default 2010 F-150 5.4 Engine Performance

Hi All - new to the forum, new to forums in general. I have a 2010 F-150 with 5.4 Triton, 90k miles. It feels sluggish and slow. What are some ways I can get more horsepower and / or better torque? Or, is the 5.4 just big and bulky and I'm kind of stuck with how it performs?

A tuner is the biggest bang for your buck. There are a number of options on the market. I have an Edge and love it, but there's better newer tuners out there now.
Hopefully others will chime in on their tuners.

These trucks get up and go pretty well. Much better than its processor thanks to the 6 speed transmission. How long have you had it?

Two months. Just seems slow and sluggish. Someone said check/replace air flow sensor. Truck also gets bad gas mileage (12-14) in town, WHICH is probably normal for a 4X4?? I’ve never had a 4X4 so I guess they are heavier and the 5.4 is just a slow and steady engine??

12-14 mpg in the city isn't far off. I would tune up your engine and see how it performs afterward. At 90k miles it may have its original plugs

jdub2010 ... Someone said check/replace air flow sensor. ...
Rather than check/replace, start with cleaning ...

.
Other maintenance items that could (?) need addressing ...
  • air filter.
  • spark plugs.

Truck also gets bad gas mileage (12-14) in town, WHICH is probably normal for a 4X4?? I’ve never had a 4X4 so I guess they are heavier and the 5.4 is just a slow and steady engine??
And for MPG ...
  • tire pressure.
  • wheel alignment and front-end suspension components.
  • unnessary weight in the bed and/or cabin.
  • driving habits and use of cruise control.
    etc., etc., etc..

I've had my 2010 5.4 SCREW 4x4 since new, and it now has 99k on the odometer. I've always averaged around 12-14 in the city and 16-18 on the highway. Mixed driving in the summer is typically 16mpg, and 14 in the winter. I'd venture to guess what you're seeing is normal.

@FL240 what about engine performance? Do you find it slow/sluggish or more pep? I know it’s not an eco boost but wondering how your torque and performance is?

What you could do is go to YouTube and watch a few 0-60 videos of stock '09-'10 5.4 f150s. And compare them to yours. I forgot to ask earlier are you running on oversized tires?
