2010 5.4 Coolant Colour
Hey everyone. 4 months ago I had a total engine replacement done (75kms btw) at the dealer because of the cam phaser issues but mostly because a fragment of metal got past the oil filter and into the oil pump and starved the engine of oil which wreaked havoc on the bearings. Fortunately I had purchased a ESP which covered the 12K cost.
I recently went back for my first oil change on the new engine and the service advisor told me I needed a coolant flush. I was shocked when he showed me the colour of my coolant (a light ***** brown) and he was just as surprised when I told him about the engine replacement 3 months earlier which was supposed to include new coolant. A few days later I went back for the coolant flush service which they did for free (as they should have).
I have since put on about 1200kms after a hockey road trip and I just checked the coolant and it looked like this. I was expecting a bright green or orange. Is this colour correct or is the dealership trying to cut corners on me. I'm assuming the coolant is strong enough as the needle is quite high which is important for winters here in Canada. I don't want any issues as my trucks ESP ends today... Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.

That looks like some nice clean coolant, it's the right color for that MY ford. In 2011 they went to the Specialty Orange Coolant that was, well, orange.

My 2010 also uses the motorcraft orange stuff. I did some research and it turns out motorcraft gold is the same orange dex cool stuff that GM uses (read up on it on bitog), you can buy it premix at auto zone. Looks to me like they used regular green stuff. It's probably fine, but I'm pretty sure the 10 MY was specced for the orange stuff.

My 2010 came with the gold coolant.
