Default 2009 F150 XLT 3" lift 295/70-18 rubbing issues... HELP!

Hi there,

I have looked all over trying to see if anyone has had the same problem we have had with the rubbing issues, and I look fwd to hearing everyones advice.

We have a few dealerships in Canada and have started lifting some trucks for customers as well as some of our own for the lot. The trucks are projects of mine and it looks like i have ordered the wrong tires.

The truck is a 2009 F150 4x4 XLT with a 3" lift, 18x9 (-12 offset) Black Rhino Dune rims with 295/70-18 Nitto Trail Grappler tires.

The truck looks awesome, but we have some issues.

Here is the truck:

Here is the problem:

On turns the truck rubs on the part of the truck that I circled. It rubs on the inside, back of the front tires on turns if that makes sense. It doesn't touch when the truck is parked. The part that the tires are rubbing is hard and part of the truck rather than just the easy to chop off plastic. Has anyone shaved this part? if so, any advice for doing it? If I shouldn't do it, I would love to hear why.

Should I get new tires? should I go to a different rim?

Sorry for off topic, but your truck looks great.

Out of curiousity, how much would it cost for that setup?

Just trim the plastic. It'd be easier and cheaper than buying new tires. That's a good looking truck.

Mine rubbed the same place I will post some pics in a minute of what I did. There is metal right behind there so you can only trim a little but I think I have mine fixed now. I'm running 34.7" tires with +12 offset with a 2-2.5" lift.

It looks smoother in person than in the pictures. I cut the hard fender plastic but instead of cutting the inner plastic I drilled 2 small holes and ran a nylon rope through it and pulled it back about an inch.

When you cut the fender make sure you leave the plastic fastner on the bottom to hold it in place.

Thanks for the pics Jeff3C, I am just not sure what you mean? From my pictures, did you chop off the part I had circled?

This is interesting.

I wonder if it has something to do with the configuration of the aftermarket wheel?

My truck is only leveled, not lifted at all, and I run Toyo 285/75/18's (35" tall) on the stock chrome rims, and have room to spare at every aspect.

Also I have seen others report running 305's with no rubbing issues.

What type of lift are you running?

NorCal, I'm sure it's the offset and wider wheel that's allowing the edge of the tire to contact the plastic.
