Default 2 trucks same trip

Yesterday my son- in -law and I each drove our trucks on a 200 mile trip. he has a 2012 F150 eco-boost w.373 and no tonneau. I have a 2013 ec-boost w 355 and tonneau. mine is a KR with 1000 mi on it, his is a Lariat with 17000 mi. he got 19 MPG, I got 14.4.I also have the SCT 3015 with canned tune for 87 octane. What the he&& is up with this.I bought my truck because of a trip I took with him and his truck.I was impressed with the mileage over my 08 F250 powerstroke 6.4.I traded and like my new truck, is there any hope I'll get better mileage in the future??I can see a little difference in mileage, but 5mpg.

There's your answer right there. Let it break in.

Were both trucks on cruise control on the highway? The EB is incredibly sensitive to throttle inputs when it comes to the mpg.
Over the same terrain and route, I can get either 12 or 24 mpg, and at the same relative speeds......that said.....your mpg will improve a bit until about 10,000 miles.

Mine went from 13-14 when I bought it to today (11,310 miles) it gets ~20mph hwy @ 75. Let her break in. BTW, the computer controls the break in. My MPG went up drastically in steps @ 3500 miles, 7500 miles and 10000 miles. The 10K jump was 2.5mpg. I turned 10K in the middle of a trip from Houston to San Antonio. 17.5mpg on the way out to San Antonio. Turned over 10K running around San Antonio for a few days. Return trip was 20mpg. Weather, etc... was more or less the same.

Makes me feel a little better. I was going to ask the same question as the op. After having read so much on here about the EB and good MPG, I've been wondering if there was something wrong with my 2013 EB. With about 90% highway driving and 3200 miles, I'm at 16.7. It seems to be holding steady, but worried because I haven't done very much city driving. I see lots of posts about guys who are getting 20+MPG. I did considerably better with my 2007 5.4L. Hoping it is a break in issue.

At first all I cared about was MPG. But after I stopped paying attention to my MPG I noticed that my SPG (Smiles Per Gallon) increased by a lot.

Does anybody do any mods to improve MPG and not just appearance or raw power? (Other than tuning)

Mine has 8,400 miles on it now and averages 13.5 or so. Even on the highway on road trips the best it gets is 16.1 mpg.

Not being fully broke made small difference with mine. But I think Ford, with unlimited amount of resources can do a better job of squeezing mpg's from an engine than a small company making tuners. Try removing tuner.

1200 miles for me. I am at 18.6 avg. Highway, I've seen 27.6. But that is at 50. I drive like an old man.
