Default (2) 2014 F150 5.0's that won't always start!

Me and a buddy of mine both bought new 2014 F150s within the last few weeks. I have an XLT 5.0 with about 500 miles and he has a STX sport 5.0 with about 250 miles. And we are both having the same issues getting our trucks to start at different times. The symptom is when we go to start the truck and turn the key the starter just makes a loud click but no crank. With my truck the one time it happened after about 6 tries it started no problem. Today the same thing happened with my buddies truck and after a series of tries it finally started. However later the today he was unable to get it to crank and had it towed to the dealership. Once they unloaded his truck they tried it again and after 3 tries it started no problem. They have diagnosed his with a bad battery, and it may be faulty to some extent but I am skeptical that it is the root of the problem since after repeatedly trying the key they will usually start ok. Has anyone else seen this before, and if so have you had a successful repair? Thanks!

If they sat on the lots all year I bet they only got started a handful of times. Batteries need to be used/charged so it doesn't surprise me that they would be bad.

Mine sat from September to December and his about the same. Mine had 119 miles on delivery and his 19 miles. One thing that neither of us have seen yet is the battery saver message that usually comes up with a low battery condition.

Sounds more like an issue with chip keys or the security system.

before I get flamed, this happened on my parents dodge one time. Could not get it to start, was towed to dealership, mechanic went under vehicle with a rubber mallet and banged on the starter a couple of time and it cranked right up. Turns out the starter was stuck, so they replaced it under warranty. Could that be the problem????

Could be a rusty starter. I'm guessing battery/electrical connection issue.

Congrats on the new rig, daninhelena! Are you headed in to the dealership as well? Let me know and I'll get your case in the hands of your regional customer service manager. All I need is a PM from you with your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, current mileage, and servicing dealership.

For now I'm going to wait and see if it does the same thing as his. It hasn't done it in about a week.

The saga continues...So today I met my buddy at the dealership when he was picking up his truck after the battery replacement. They had started it multiple times in the building with no problem then moved it outside for most of the day. He went to start it and the same click as before. So I did some research at the parts department on the starter. Apparently F150's made after 11/15/12 have a new style and much quieter starter, which I did notice how they are quite a bit quieter than they used to be a few years ago. And then I asked what is the availability of the starter and it is on a national backorder for at least 2 weeks maybe more. That tells me that there have been other issues with them recently.
