I'm coming up to my 48k.(brake service, tranny service, and oil change) and up to now have always done semi synthetic but I think at the next service I'm going to provide them with synthetic. I've heard a lot of good about AmsOil but it seems a lot of you are using Mobil 1. Any particular reason?

That's $26 for the best oil change you can get really.
Just playing devils advocate, but what about driving back to the store to drop off the used oil and the drive back. That's time and money. If your trucks anything like mine (12 mpg city) you're looking at another $4 in a gallon of gas. Time is subjective so we won't count that. So we basically pay the same, but I never got dirty, never climbed under a truck, ate free donuts and coffee and the best part... got to oogle at the GT500's and other ST products in the showroom

...this post was meant to be humorous, tough to convey on the interweb machine.

I wouldn't worry about switching. I'd like to see ONE engine failure from factory blend oil on any ANY vehicle forum. To this date I haven't seen any. I frequent Mustang, Diesel, Trucks, Fusion and all car forums just to stay in the loop and yet to see one. Tons of posts talking about full synth's and brands of them because they are "better" than factory blends. Is it going to hurt using full synthetic...no way, but I don't see the value or increased protection paying for the full synthetic. As many mentioned here, yeah the oil can go further, but fuel dilution and contaminates (filter life) usually stop that from happening. Just something to think about.

Ecoboost calls for 5W-30.

There are more factors to consider than just longevity of full synthetic. For example, it flows better in cold conditions, meaning when it's -40 out I'm doing less damage to my engine on a 'cold start' (that's even using the block heater)

Default oil/filter service

I drive a 13 f150, 5.o xlt,4x4. supercab. 16000 mi. At first oil change at 1000 mi I went to Motorcraft full syn. and ford filter and have my dealer service dept put in Motorcraft oil and filter. Sure, I could do it myself but am at the point in life where I do not want the mess and do not want to crawl under my truck.I use a "WORKS "coupon, pay the extra for the additional oil and full syn., but I get the tires rotated with the coupon.
$41.65

If your in Canada, $60 is just fine. I'm in Alberta and I'll pay $4.99 a litre for some sevens quality oil and $10 for the filter even at Walmart. My local Ford dealer has an ongoing sale for $59.95. Maybe it's because I'm closing in on 60 but I'm done laying under my truck with this one. But for all you kids out there, fomoto valves are awesome.

Too funny. After reading this thread I checked my window sticker and she has 4k miles on her since last change. So, I took her into the dealer today. 1 hr later, free coffee, a/c waiting room, 5 candy crush games, 5 farm heroes games and a session of bejeweled on my phone and the service manager called me up to get my ride. So far a good day. I did get my fingers a little dirty from the dipstick to verify the oil level when I got home .

I change my own oil with full synthetic and Motorcraft oil filter for about $30.

Steps:

Remove skid plate
Drain oil and remove filter
Drink a nice cold beer
Put on new filter and replace drain plug
Put skid plate back on
Fill with oil

Takes 15, 20 minutes tops. It takes that long to drive to my dealer one way. The city I live in offers free pick up for oil recycling.

Easy decision for me.

Mobile 1 has great marketing and used to be one of the best. Still a very good performer, but no longer the king it used to be. There is no #1 oil, but different oils like different motors. Of the top ones that are out there currently: Mobile 1, Rotella T6, Penzoil Platinum (and platinum ultra), Amsoil, and redline. I go back and forth on Royal Purple. It's really good overall and did wonerfully in my subarus, just expensive and not sure it is worth the money when I got the same results from Rotella and platinum..... But again, these are just some of the best proven stuff, use them all and see what YOU like best.
