Default Rim and tire help

Hey guys I have a '11 XLT and currently have OEM 18 inch chrome rims and 33" toyo open country a/t 2s. I want to get new rims and tires. I want to keep the 18 inch rim but upgrade to a 35 inch tire. I'm really liking the nitto trail grapplers m/t's. I have the truck leveled and the 33s look way too small. Also, I want to have a small amount of tire stick out from the fenders. Maybe an inch and a half or so. Advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you have the OEM 18" rims, then they are 7.5" wide. Anything wider than about 11.0" will be too wide to properly support the tire.

I went to a Raptor take off (17") that are 8.5" wide. They support a 285/85R17 (Toyo AT2s). They are 34" tall. A 7.5" rim would not support them. Same with a 35" tire (35 x 12.5R18, e.g.)

I think he wants to get "new" 18" rims with a negative offset so they stick out. An 18x9 with a -12 offset would work, BUT I don't think 35's that wide and with that offset would fit without major rubbing with just a level. Some trimming or more lift would be required.

0 offset with 4.75 back spacing pushes them out 1.25 inches more than stock 18" XLT rims?

Stock are +44 so zero would push them out 1 3/4" more. Then 1/2 the difference in rim width will be added to the total. So if you went from stock 7 1/2" rims to 9" 0 offset it would stick out 1 3/4" + 3/4" or 2 1/2" more. Sometimes differences in tire width will make them stick out even more.

Ahhhhh good catch!! Yes its going up to a 8 1/2"

2 1/4" More out..... but that also gets rid of 1/2" of back spacing.... the whole reason for new rims

Agreed. If you want to go to a conventional 35/12.50 I would consider the 8.5" wheel a minimum. Nine inches would be better.

To give you an idea. Rim is 17x8.5 0 offset 4.75 backspacing. 37x12.5 tires.

Lol not gonna get very far since I can only go straight. Forget hitting any bumps as well. Was hoping to have shocks today so I can get everything installed, but like always I'm still waiting.
